Title: Noctua NH-C14 Top Flow cpu cooler
Post by: bigsteve on September 02, 2011, 21:06:59 PM
Just updated my Globwin 802 to a Cooler Master  Haf x(only had it about 11 years :)).
Going to install my watercooling internally but may take a while to get things sorted so decided to go air cooling until i do.
Decided on the Noctua NH-C14 , some good reviews so decided to give it a go.
Installation in the Haf X was pretty straight forward but a little fiddly as i didn't remove mobo from case.

Left my overclock on (8600 running @ 4.1 ghz).
Idle temps probably about 6c higher than my watercooling( around 32c).
Full load low 50's(Orthos running for 2 hrs)(watercooling low 40's).
This is with the fans running @ 900 rpm , basically silent.
Pretty impressive really saying it is silent.
Note my watercooling uses 2 x 120 Panaflows on fan controllers running minimum speed possible.

you've retired the 802? end of an era! I wish I still had mine, best case I've ever had by a wide margin.

802 has been a great case but with the size of GFX cards nowadays a real struggle to get them in.
Temps of my 6950(with 6970 bios & overclocked) have dropped considerably with the Haf X , @ least 10c cooler under load.
802 will be used for someone else's rig , it does have 5 x 80 & 1 x 120 Red Wing case fans.

Air coolers have really come on a long way, I was tempted to go watercooling for a while but the cost and fiddly nature always put me off, these days I don't really think it's necessary (despite how cool knightys rigs always look!)

Noctura do make some fine coolers, I have a NH-D14 while they are not cheap it is easy to tell a lot of work had gone into the design and it has to be the easiest high-end cooler I have ever fitted.

The Haf X case looks interesting and would dwarf my Stacker! seems a shame not to get another card for some crossfire action with it!  :D
