Well i got home from work, my PC was playing up... i couldnt find a XP CD so i formatted and stuck Ubuntu on here.
I dont know anything about Linux, even installing something is way to confusing! Balls.
It is shiny tho :)
Easy Ubuntu will solve most niggles:
http://placelibre.ath.cx/keyes/index.php/2005/10/27/65-easy-ubuntu-24-beta
unpack it and run the binary by opening up a terminal:
If its on the desktop:
cd Desktop
cd EasyUbuntu
sudo ./EasyUbuntu
your password
Its only for Breezy Badger, btw. ;)
Ran that and it installed lots of funky stuff and i also now understand how to install the Binarys now :) cheers.
Still nothing really making much sence but ah well.
when you want a program, go into synaptic to install it.
make sure you grab the automatix script from the ubuntuforums so it grabs an installs all the codecs for you. then you are away...

He just did Easy Ubuntu, which does the same thing. ;)
Install amarok (http://dot.kde.org/1147903679/) in synaptic, youll love it.
There is also lots of software now appearing in Autopackage format, think of it like .msi packages, but for linux.

Any problems, Ubuntu wiki and forums are great! :)
Great Guide Here. (http://krazypenguin.net/Ubuntu_Dapper_Drake_6.06_Guide)
Edit : Amarok 1.4 is out! (http://dot.kde.org/1147903679/) :D

atm i am using xfmedia.
uber light digital muzak player :D
its loverly. shame no skin support but i can just minimize it. an it takes up 2 meg ram XD
I use Beep Media player in ubuntu, came with the "human skin" which pretty much was made for ubuntu goodness :) really nice.
Cant wait till I fix up this damn hard drive or just get a new one. Going to reinstall ubuntu and get down and dirty with it.
Just wait till you figure it out a bit more, you could get xgl and compiz and do this (http://www.freedesktop.org/~davidr/xgl-demo1.xvid.avi)
Surprisingly its not that hard to setup, theres a how to on the ubuntu forums. I managed to get it working, but its not quite a fan of dual monitor setups unfortunately :(
Still way cool though :D
I got a XP cd from work and reinstalled last night... ah happy system :)
anyone want my sun ubuntu theme for xmms/beeb/winamp which i made :) its loverly :D
Found a great Ubuntu guide, covers pretty much every question anyone could ever ask. (http://krazypenguin.net/Ubuntu_Dapper_Drake_6.06_Guide):)

It seemed impressive at first, but upon skimming it, it was obviously written for geeks by geeks and overcomplicates everything tremendously. For example, the the section of "where do I get new software" it points to four different websites that offer source code, but not once does it mention the two extremely easy to use package managers included in Ubuntu.
Tbh, its one of the worst guides Ive ever seen, from a n00bs POV.
i remember screaming upon reading that. thinking wtf have i done
