Title: Orange, android phone deals?
Post by: zpyder on August 10, 2011, 20:06:58 PM
Anyone know of any good, cheap android phone deals on Orange at the moment? My girlfriend is wanting/needing to upgrade, and I am guessing she wants to stay on Orange for orange wednesdays. Pays £15 a month currently so anything around that mark is ideal really...

Orange Monte Carlo £119.99 inc £10 free credit for orange customers (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/orange-monte-carlo-119-99-inc-10-free-credit-for-orange-customers/993348)

Came up today, its the successor to the great Orange San Francisco (which I have, and is another good option), only downside might be that its massive (same size as the Desire HD)

Well she's on Pay monthly £15 a month at the moment. Using an old old old phone as the one she got on the contract bit the dust. Originally she didn't see the point in smartphones (I just switched to an iPhone when we started going out) but now she's seen their worth when you can put things like field identification guides on them etc. Pretty sure £20 would be her limit as she's still a student, best if it was £15 a month though :)

So what does she use, in order of priority data, voice, sms? What talk plan is she on at the moment?

If you are buying from Orange, the web prices will always be the best direct offers, and you will be on a 24 month contract.

Dolphin 15 will give you:

100 Minutes (25ppm after)
Unlimited SMS
250 MB Data

Your also looking at these phones at that price point:

- Orange San Francisco
- LG Optimus Me
- Orange Barcelona
- Sony Ericsson Xperia X8

Other options:

- Go Sim Only and get a phone from somewhere else, will mean 1/12month contract and better inclusive allowance, however they seem to be pretty rubbish for data
- You could always try car phone warehouse, as often they'll chuck extras in, but I'm not sure what they will be able to offer or if they are great to deal with.

Like I mentioned in the PM I'll check in work next week

Text is the biggy really, don't think she'll use that much data, and like me she hates speaking on phones :D

Thanks for the help, would be good to know what the new deals will be :D

Im with Bacon.

Pay £90 - £100 for a good Android phone (ie Orange San Fran, flashed to a stock Android 2.3 and unlocked for free online) then go to giffgaff (http://giffgaff.com/goodybags/10pound-facebook-goodybag), £10 a month will get you:

Truely unlimited data
Truely unlimited texts
Free calls to other Giff Gaff users
250 UK minutes then 8p per min after that

You will have to do the unlocking and flashing I assume but its simple, there is even a guide (http://www.tekforums.net/guides-projects/how-to-install-android-2-3-gingerbread-on-orange-san-francisco-zte-blade/) in the guides section  ;)

The reason I specified orange though was to make use of the Orange Wednedays. She has reasoned in the past that if you make use of Orange Weds regularly the contract pretty much pays for itself in the long run, which is a fair point I guess :)

Or just get a PAYG sim for orange Wednesdays ;)
