Ive got mine set to 264mhz, and skype works well, and I can actually play my megadrive games on it.

Ill report back with battery life.

I hear (not found it myself) that one can set the Wizard to only ramp up the CPU for certain programs, so it wont waste too much battery when idle, that true?

It is indeed true, but Ive got mine set to always run at the set speed.
The difference is amazing!  The screen rotation is instant!

A similar utility came out ages ago for PXA processor based PDAs - cant remember the name of it

When I had an old Axim X5 it used to reduce battery life by about 30 minutes when up full whack.

Dont use it now though as the x51v is 624MHz so not much need for it

The chip in the HTC Wizard is an OMAP850 Dual Core processor, set at 180.

Some people have reported to get it to 277mhz and higher without problem and to date there has been no reported fatalites.  All problems are cured by a hard reset.

For scaling CPU depending on load I recommend PocketHackMaster

Well, since me saying I overclocked my phone, i have run some skype, some wifi, spent about half an hour playing on my Master System Emulator, Talking to some people and laughing at the old Nvidia FX5800 video spoof.

Battery is still 100%

The 624mhz is overclocked. The Axim is overclocked from factory. They just have a higher capacity battery to compensate.

I can overclock my 2210 to exactly the same speed (down to the 24mhz).

Not quite - the axim x51v has the PXA270 chip @ 624 MHz, whereas you have the PXA255 (I believe) - not simply an overclock. The battery is also exactly the same capacity as the lower specified models (1100 mAh)

Thats all well and good, but what does any of it have to do with the OMAP chip??

Phone hasnt been charged since I clocked it (It was at 100% prior to clocking) and is now on 70%

Not bad.  Only crashed once though, but its done the same thing before, before I clocked it.
