Post by: Liam on October 13, 2007, 21:05:55 PM
Hey Guys,

Just now my Sony Ericsson K800i has suddenly stopped working. Iaccident dropped it on the floor and it came up with "Insert SIM Card" it has done this many times before when iv accidently dropped the phone on the ground and i just take out the SIM card and re-seet it back in the phone and it works, but just now i took the sim card out, put it back in the phone and nothing... doesnt switch on but i noticed a red light flashing at the sideof the phone, i hope it doesnt sound like what i think it is that the phone is dead! :(

any surgestions guys of what it might be or what i can do??

Thanks - Liam

Yep, sounds like the firmware on my phone has gone. Great, Just what i need, but how could this of happened though i mean like what triggered the phone to loose the firmware? Well right now sounds like because this has happened there is no way of getting all the conacts off my phone or my sim card! i havent got the USB cable for my phone as im not at home but if i get the cable tomorrow maybe then i could give it a go, is there anyway i can recover my sim contacts??

Thanks - Liam

if youve saved your contacts on the sim card then theyll still be there, if theyre only saved on the phone then im not too sure what happens when you reflash the erom im afraid

it might be that once its flashed then it all goes back to normal but i couldnt say for sure

Yeah as long as its not the sim contacts and everything else like pics then im not bothered, and yes all the contacts are saved to the SIM card as that is what i set the phone to save the conacts to originally. But on the firmware program guide thing of how to re-update it, it didnt mention about SIM contacts at all,

Thanks - Liam

Got the phone back up and running now! :) my mum gave me the USB lead this morning and i followed the instructions of how yo fix it, but all i did was download this USB driver for the phone, ran the software while holding buttons 2 & 5 and then it detected the phone it said on the log and then the software disappeared :S then i disconnected the USB lead from the comp, tried to turn the phone on but nothing happened but then i noticed that that the red flashing had disappeared and then the phone turned back on :S weird lol thanks for the help anyway guys!

Yeah so am i lol but the strange thing i dont get is that when it was all done, they said that when a new firmware is installed everything on the phone like pics music etc and other data is deleted and all settings are set to factory reset. But when i got the phone turned on again i noticed that my phone layout theme was still there and working, and everything else like pictures were still there!

yeah, im not entirely sure myself but i dont think the erom has anything to do with the firmware and that sort of stuff, honestly i dont know why it broke in the first place but it seems to be a common thing because sony released an update for it a while back which is probably the one youre on now which seems to solve the problem of it dying on its arse randomly/if its been dropped

Oddly enough, I thought Id try my old 7610 after reading this.

It had the insert sim message after I moved flat, I assume I whacked it whilst moving stuff in etc. Currently borrowing a phone from the missus dad.

So I popped my sim into the 7610 and the damn thing worked!! For about 40 minutes. I put it onto charge after I found it was working, and then 40 minutes or so later the message insert sim appeared again. (I did nothing with the phone during this time).

Ah well.

lol yeah its strange why the "insert sim" message keeps coming up on your 7610 but mine has done it loads on my phone before after iv dropped it, all i do is turn it off, take the battery and sim out and re-insert the sim turn phone back on and it works again lol. White you could try what i did and carefully re-insert the sim again it might work.

Right a new problem lol i didnt want to start a new topic... just this afternoon while i was waiting for the bus my whole Orange phone signal went down, well there was a signal but along the Provider text instead of Orange it displayed "No Access To Network" i thought this was odd as in that area there is always a full service there, and then half an hour later while i was nearly home on the bus the service came back. But iv just noticed that on my phone i cannot receive calls or texts, but i can make & send calls. Has anyone else got this problem?

That sounds like a sim fault.

One of the companies who we support firewalls for are into mobile comms - would suprise you how complicated sims are nowadays - some are like miniature computers with memory & cpu

Hhhmmmm i hope it isnt, anyway iv just rang Orange now and they have released an a statement by an operator on the phone saying that customers may be having problems sending / receiving texts and making / recieving calls so that could be the problem.
