Title: Printers
Post by: DEViANCE on February 06, 2009, 21:29:58 PM
Anyone recomend a good printer?

Itll only get light use but as best quality, speed and ink costs as possible. (dont mind expensive ink, as long as its not every time i print a photo)

Got about £100 to spend, should I go inkjet or spend abit more on colour laser?

Ive always been a fan of HP but willing to look at others if they are as good.

Quite fancy a 2nd hand HP1220, looks like a beast.

any ideas?

cheers
rob

Asda photo thingy - youll get way better pics and wont have to wait half hour for a 6x4.

Dont get a Xerox solid ink laser for the love of God. They cost a fortune to turn off and on again.

Just get a laser for like £50 and spend the rest on a subsription to Men Only.

I hate HP as their ink costs a bomb ><

I have a Canon ip4300 and cant fault it. 5 separate cartridges so ink replacement is better than the HPs 2. Very good photo quality prints, and pretty fast too. Prints cds which is awesome I find as well. The only issue I have is that canon cartirdges, though not the most expensive, are more difficult to get unofficially. IE< you have to reuse the chip from an official cartridge for the cheap ones, and after a while doing so invalidates the warranty on it :(

If you do go laser check the carts arent chipped against refilling.

Id go for HP TBH as the print heads are on the carts hence slightly more expensive, so if its not going to get a lot of use and the ink clogs up it wont kill the printer like epsons seem to do, don know how other brands are configured?

Worst case youd have to buy a new cartridge, best case damp warm cloth over cart head to clean.

1220s aint bad printers - they are A3 & as they are more business use, they prob got expensive carts.
Also they are bit old now, so prob not the best for photo printing

I should also have picked up on the original post saying 1220. We have a 1220c that we got when I was at college and assignments had to be on A3 paper.

So thats about 7 years.

I ended up buying my own printer 3 years ago as A: the cartridges were a rip-off and ink runs out quite quickly, B: it takes a while to print, C: the photo quality is dire.

But given the fact it is still going strong after 7 years is pretty good, except for when it needed repairing due to my oaf of a mother.

Bought one of these the other day MFC-465CN got for £77 at staples, but seen a few places cheaper, got 1 year on site warranty.  Includes fax machine, standalone copier, although has only a 10 sheet feeder, print direct from usb cf sd xd etc, lcd for photos etc, scanning, feels solid and looks great, only down side no drivers for very old OS, also has network connectivity..  Cartridges are a little expensive, but lots of non-manufacturer cartridges for it under £10 for Bk/Y/C/M packs of 4.
