Admittedly If its on-line updates ok and with the new tech it was not always going to be perfect for ALL games. MS though admitted the problem and highlighted the issues and explained in detail about Nvidia to ATI issues.
And slowly with updates unlocked more and more games.
So both have been in the same boat but I agree Sony again being real stupid about it, seems they were aware and just hoping people would not notice but had the statements ready to ship when it came out it seems.

indeed not, my heart bleeds for the poor little company struggling against the established competition. ;)
The thing I have never understood is why do they even bother attempting to support older games ? Surely if people want to play the older games theyll just use their older console ?
It seems to me that both MS and Sony (dont know about Nintendo yet) have caused themselves unnecessary problems by offering back-catalogue support in the first place !

The Wii supports game cube games from the box and plenty of virtual console games (better way of doing it imo). I think therell be no problems tbh.
In my opinion backwards compatability is just a cool feature and in no way nessasery, its nice that if you have a ps1 game you havent played in ages, and you ps1 is fried you can just pop it in the ps3 and get playing. If itd work okay like lol.
For the vast majority of people you trade in your old console for the next one. If you have some games you like on it still you keep those games and play them on the new machine.
Its a massive reason as to why Sony have dominated. People really do value the idea of being able to get a new machine without having to buy an entirely new catalogue of games.
also, major problem is laser life, my psx is basically shagged
being able to play psx games on newer machines is great, eventually the same will be said of my ps2
