I am wondering how much sony is letting themselves open to piracy with the other OS option

it could cause alot of problems.

Plus the menu system sucks, was nice for a small device like the psp, for the ps3 it is too simplistic a design which makes it a very confusing with the amount of information of a main console.

agreed while a nice design there is to many options and scrolls and sub menus.
As for piracy Sony have good faith on their blue ray disk and its security, since they are the main people who invented it they must have faith in it.

You will at least get homebrew stuff no problem running and pirate ps2 games I am sure but PS3 games maybe a while or not at all.
Strange though, they flat out wont let you do things on PSP then Open up for PS3, strange.
