I think my PSU has just failed, as my PC won't turn on, and even though its been off all day, it's actually red hot!
I can't seem to find the same one/type though?
It's a Hiper Type R 530w, with screw on power connectors at the back.
What is this type called? And anyone know of a cheap replacement?

ignore those connectors, your new power supply will come with new wires
a normal one is wired directly, a modular one the wires plug into the psu like your broken one
(but they all have different connectors)
Hiper never did have a very good reputation for longevity , i doubt you will find any new 1's .
Nice one, cheers guys :)
I didn't know if that was a standard type connection now-a-days, which would have saved me unplugging everything in the case. I appreciate that isn't hard though, lol.
Will have a look for a new one tonight and get it ordered (different make this time). I've always bought cheapo PSU's, and this is the first time one has failed!
Cheers

That hiper should be covered by a lifetime warranty. Mine was but given it doesn't have enough oomph for modern things I chucked it.

Hiper isn't a cheap one.... not a cheap cheap one anyway....
avoid the cheap cheap ones... they're really crap these days :-(
Mine's a modular Corsair jobby. Quite happy with it, and feel fairly secure it'll be good for quite a while yet.
We should make a thread for components that have died. I'd be interested to know of the main computer parts, what people have had fail the most.
Personally, I think the only thing to die on me has been a PSU. Though I've known a few people have HDD's die.
Peripheral wise, I've gone through quite a few flash drives. I think that was down to getting high capacity ones, when they were quite new out. I've settled down to 16gb drives now that are a bit slower, but seem much more long-lived.
I opened the Hiper one up to see what was in there, so void the warranty.
Bought a Corsair one from ebuyer last night, and got it delivered today :) Back up and running now
