Title: R4DS
Post by: jamieL on December 11, 2007, 13:08:31 PM
I think it was on this forum that I read about this wonderful little cartridge for the DS.. Well, I ordered one and ordered a 2gb micro SD card from Ebay at the same time. This was over 2 weeks ago and Im still waiting for the memory card so I decided to use my phones card temporarily.

I must say, this is a fantastic bit of kit! Incredibly easy to use, comes with all the necessary software and just works straight off! Been sat playing every DS game I could imagine :) (of course, I own the original copies of these games and these are merely backups...)

Has anyone else got one of these? Definately the best £16 I spent!

The cost of the cart plus a 2gb card came to about the same price as a DS Game :)

Yes, it was me. Theres M3 cards which are identical.

you can get 6gb & 8gb cards now ;-D

Still.... nowhere near enough for my 45gb collection

First one just arrived and I have another 2 on order (one for g/f and one for mate)

Cracking bit of kit and so much easier than carrying hundreds of carts round with you.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. Considering selling all my games now as theyve become useless really. Think Ill be taking orders for friends in the near future and just order say, 5 at once. The save games even work well! :)

Any idea on what format videos have to be in to play? Audio works fine for me although through the DS the quality is terrible..

This has really made me want to buy a DS Lite now.. Knowing I can have every game I want in one tiny machine :)

Hey,

Just wondering where you saw the R4DS for £16?

My sister has a DSL but due to lack of games never uses it so with this we will both benefit!

TIA

Hey Mik! Welcome to the forums.

Cant speak for Jamie but I suspect that it may have been eXtemeeDeals:

HERE (http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.604)

Ive that the M3 has high density (4Gb+) support before the R4 has rolled it out so more people are plumping for that at the moment, the thats a drunken opinion.

Hope that helps

EDIT: i meant dealextreme

Thanks for the prompt reply,

Its fun being a nooblar! I used to frequent these boards years back so its good poking around and seeing some names I remember.

Ive seen there isnt much between the M3/R4 it terms of them playing games just that the R4 now has some other features.

I dont think I remember you from the past, but im no old skool member. Glad to see your return.

Im having that same dilemma at the moment (r4 vs M3). I want to buy a family member a cart of some sort for xmas but I cant quite decide between them.

I am pretty sure that dealextreme will be my choice tho, I have ordered other things from them before, not the best delivery times but for the price, and with free delivery its amazing.

Exactly, I saw $ <-- and thought, oh free delivery for the mericans, then checked further and its free delivery world wide which frankly is brilliant, defiantly a bookmarked site.

Yeah Im resigned to the fact that even if I order now it may not be here for xmas but I think the "so what new DS game would you like today" aspect of it will blow any lateness out the water.

Yeah, I can say that I paid nothing more than I the £16 for mine.

Yeah, thats where I ordered mine from.

R4 is brilliant. Work perfectly and I love the fact that they supply you have a handy little Micro SD Card reader which works great, plus a quality DS Cartridge case! (Not that it ever needs to leave the DS again!)

I must say, Mario Party DS is fantastic!! Been playing it all night and Im hooked :)

Pay the extra & get a Cyclo DS.

R4 dont support High Capacity, so your limited to 2gb.
No fun when theres 8gb memory cards out.

supercardstore.com has them in stock apparently. £10.00 more expensive but if you want them for xmas its not bad. Im waiting for 2 to be delivered at the minute.

Id disagree, Ive still not got 2gb worth of decent games for mine. Unless you want to have the four thousand editions of Pokemon on there

Got confirmation that my order for 2 r4ds carts shipped yesterday from supercardstore.com. Should be here in a day or two woo hoo!!

It seems  supercardstore.coms hosting has expired - dont seem to be able to get to the site.

Anyone know anywhere I can get delivery before Xmas of an R4DS?

EDIT: Seems there is a shortage of R4DS so i went for an M3DS Real from AnyToys (http://anytoys.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/715) for £35 with express delivery. Also got a 2Gb MicroSD card from W2W for £11

EDIT2: So ... now where should I look for popular UK DS games? TL seems to have a lot but they are huge packs and mostly foreign.

Got an r4 from a computer fair today, brilliantly simple.

I find thepiratebay.org has backups of all the games that I legally own already, that saves me having to make backups myself :)

& I found newsgroups even easier, especially for games I dont own.

So.....you buy a r4ds card, and with a card reader plugged in to your PC, wack games on the card which youve aquired from any number of sites. Then wack the card in the DS and you can play them all??

Seems the TopToy (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10323)   is the best deal atm for £13.45 from dealextreme.

Does everything the same as the R4DS. M3 etc, supports the big cards and is cheap!

I got 2x top toys on order.

CycloDS is prob going to be the best long term for support, etc. IMO
