Title: Recent problems with antivirus software?
Post by: jack_symantec on December 27, 2007, 18:30:50 PM
Some of you may have heard about some recent major problems with certain antivirus programmes – or may have even suffered from those problems.

I am sorry if you encountered any difficulties with your antivirus programme. I hope that you found a solution for it and that you managed to get your PC up and running again.

For those of you who have not considered Norton lately: Maybe now it would be a good time to take the Norton Challenge and see how we have improved! Check this out - http://www.takethenortonchallenge.com/ (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/28415/lng/us/tpl/v5) See how we have enhanced our performance. And just give it a try, theres a money back guarantee!

TO be fair the OP probably wont post here again, but im going to take the opportunity to comment in case he does.

Do Norton/Symantec do a piece of software that is aimed at the home user that doesnt insist on the liveupdate thing, takes up less than 30Mb of RAM, and doesnt nag you?  Ive had just as many issues at work relating to Nortong Internet Security and 360 as I had 12 months back.  Its a terrible, bloated piece of software, and the AV never comes very high on independant tests.  These days im supporting home users, and we are supposed to recomment McAffee.  Thats bloatware as well.

Ill stick to my Sophos/AVG mix, because they just work, and my hardware firewalls built into the router, and my paranoia induced Watchguard.

Virus infections are 9/10 times caused by pure stupidity. Paying £51 for some software to tell you that britney.mp3.vbs.com is a virus is pointless. You either know already or are too stupid to get the message anyway.

The link will have been edited by one of the Moderating team.

TBH I wouldnt put Norton on if it was the last available anti-virus suite in the world.

Ah, actaully missed that bit. It isnt too bad as a home-user product anyway...during a manual install it asks if you want a managed or unmanaged installation.
