I need a very long RJ11 cable to go from a room upstairs to the phone socket downstairs, as its a temp solution Im not wanting to drill holes etc, just route the wire neatly.
Ive found this : http://www.edirectory.co.uk/pf/880/mia/d/rj11+rj11+cable+25+metre+adsl+extension+lead/pid/4051122
But at about £7 inc P&P it sounds a little cheap for 25m of cabling.
Any thoughts?
should be fine.
If you have a reel of RJ45 you could do it yourself; cut the existing RJ11 cable you have and then crimp / solder / twist together the matching cables.
But that price seems about right tbh m8.
Cool cheers, will get that ordered soon then.
It all depends on if the company are trying the rip you off prices or the reasonable ones, that looks reasonable and should be standard cable.
If this is for your router, Id do it the other way round - put the router next to your socket and run a long Cat5e cable to your computer. Youll get a much more stable connection.
Doh, already ordered it.
Ill let you know how it goes.
ergh. Sorry m8, I thought this was for your dial-up not for your ASDL :s
You should find that itll still work ok but as Mal says, youd be better off sticking the router directly into the master socket and then using CAT5 to run the connection upstairs.
Where are you living now (yes, Ive forgotten already) ? I might be able to sort you out with a long Cat5 cable if youre closish to RG12.
Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.
Ive got a decent length of cat5, just not sure if its quite long enough. Im currently using a standard telephone extension cable thats 15m, and if it was any shorter Id be stuck.
Thats a bit of a trek from Berkshire tbh :S
If you have trouble let me know and I might be able to sort out getting the cable to an address in Swansea and then maybe up to you.
Got the RJ11, havent got round to sorting it yet, will let you know.
Running a 15m RJ11 from the router down to the phone socket rather than sticking the router next to the socket and running RJ45 to the PCs lost me a good meg off my total download speed. I suppose it depends on how fast your connection is as to whether youll take the drop in speed for convenience (I did).
