My mobos a sata1 one I think, so do I need to buy sata1 drives or are sata2 backwards comp? And do they use std power connectors?
Sata2 is backwards compatible as far as i know
the power adapter is totally dependant on which drive you get, i have some with and some without the old style ide connector
you can buy adapters easily enough though for old ide to the newer sata style adapters
SATA-II is fully backwards compatible. To get true SATA-II performance you also need to use SATA-II capable cables.
Why did the devise a new power connector when so many drives ship with the old one or both?!
Something to do with hot swapping maybe? :?

IIRC they changed the power and added 3.3v. So had to change the connectoer and make sure you put it in the right way as to avoid confusion.
