I keep getting autoreplies to mails Ive never sent (checked my sent messages = nothing) in my gmail account. Theyre from random peoples names but my email address next to them. Presumably someones spoofing my email address to send out massive amounts of spam. Ive changed passwords and such as a precaution but is there anything I can do about this or is it anything to worry about?
Riv
Theres nothing you can do about it at all.
Its more likely that a piece of software has picked up your email address from somewhere on the web and is just using it to send out spam. This is a way of bypassing whitelists, as the email address being used actually exists and can be verified.
bastards.
Its not actually sending from your accounts so it wont be in your outbox and changing your password wont help.
Theyre just saying its coming from your account when its not and theyre bouncing back to yours. Just delete them - happens to everyone :)
Most spam filters can spot them if its really out of control but if its just a few a day delete em - theyll change addresses sooner or later.

Changing passswords was just precautionary. Our mail filter here (the excellent mailmarshall picks spoofed addresss out so I figured that was what was happening. Just wanted some reassurance really.
Cheers all!
