A steam based console, hmm could be interesting!

Its going to be rather pricy with those specs :P plus there will be some games it wont run, especially seeing as though it has a 3-4 year life cycle.

Ignoring the above though, it could possibly

I did think that myself too, random selection of i7's on scan start at £227 add it all together and you could be taking £300-400 easy, still will live in hope that I don't have to remortgate to be able to afford one.

£3-400, i think your dreaming about that price :P

i7
8GB Memory
Random nVidia card, to last 4 years 560ti/570 ?
Custom Case and probably Custom Cooler and all the other Custom Steam junk to go with it

The Alienware X51 retails at £1150 which uses a GT 555 GPU, the base model alone is £699 with an i3 (yes i know Alienware are overpriced!) but still

I don't see how they can do it. If people can't get it for a comparable price to the next xbox, they're just going to either make a htpc to do it, or just play on their pc as normal.

They will hammer out a deal with the parties involved necessary to get this down to an affordable level, otherwise I agree it would struggle to compete.

Not sure what use the controller with interchangable controls would be, will have to wait and see what is actually interchangable but as long as a keyboard and mouse work then jobs a good un.

Anything more than £400 and I think it'll struggle and even at that price I think it will anyway, with xbox360's being had for about £150 at the moment and the new xbox being worked on its going to have some stiff competition when it does come out.

And one of the biggest problems it might have is the length of time it takes to download games, I've been downloading mass effect 2 for 3 days now (not constantly mind) but I can't see people wanting to wait that long compared to chucking a disc into a dvd drive and playing it instantly.
