Possible?

If not, do I need to buy a copy of Media Centre? :/

I would *guess* that as long as you can find Linux uPNP enabled media server that can transcode to WMV youll be fine.

Personally I run TVersity on my Win2k server and that does the job perfectly for me.

Although you have to remember that because the 360 (mainly) takes WMV files, most video has to be transcoded. This takes quite a bit of resource to do.
My Dual Xeon 1.8 server w/ 2gb of RAM cannot transcode a 1.2gb HD MKV to WMV in real-time :(

Im not sure about apps on the XP/linux unfortunately but just thought Id mention Vista does it as well as Media Centre.  It just discovers it and runs.

Ah well I think Ill just get a USB 2.0 HD and transcode all my stuff over, I wish theyd add DivX/Xvid support though. :(

I already took Vista back because its a piece of crap.

apparently the 360 will play HD WMV from a USB disk, so that coule definately be the way forward.

Ive built a completely seperate mediacentre (using Media Portal) for divx/xvid/mkv support.

hmm, apparently there is a way to convert on the fly using ahead nero ultra edition although i havent actually tried it...
but like nimrod said, if youre converting a HD video on the fly then its gonna take a lot of power to do so

im sure i read somewhere that they are bringing divx support to the xbox 360...
