Title: Suggest me a phone...
Post by: Beaker on March 22, 2008, 12:09:55 PM
Right then, im up for a new handset on the 3rd May, and prefer to be able to go with as much info as possible. :)

I would as a result like some help here.  Im looking to either upgrade my existing t-mobile handset (HTC Wizard i never use), or to change my contract to another cmopany completely.  What im after is ::

3G hanset that will allow me to connect my laptop, and not skin me for charges (My web+Walk package cost me £~£40 extra one month because i didnt read the small print).
Not "Too" big.  The Wizard is really as large as I can cope with.  Its pretty much too big really.
£40 per month maximum.

I can get deals through Carphone Warehouse as the company I work for is 50% owned by them, however I would prefer to not if possible as that means work get my mobile number (a Good deal will change that though).

Was looking at the new N95, or possibly another Windows Mobile.  ive no great need for anything massively fancy, but i do want to be able to ram the lappy through it so i dont have to go hunting for a WiFi hotspat.

I got the N95 8GB a few weeks ago and its great. I recommend that. You can get it from O2 for £45 (18 month contract) with 1200 mins, 1000 texts and a bolt-on (e.g. "unlimited" 200Mb web). And you can probably get a better deal if you phone them.

yeah, was thinking a mx of £40 including a the extra charge.  I removed web n walk from my phone recently when I got billed the extra £40.  They didnt explain that I could only browse on the handset, and had 3Gb of bandwidth.  How i would do that I dont know, the Wizard isnt exactly awesom to browse on.  So ive dumped it, dropped my costs down to £15 a month, and replaced the wizard with a Nokia 5300.

Yeah, was looking at that.  However O2s data costs are silly.  Im actually considering Three, and I hate those buggers after the last fiasco I had with them.

Im also considering a Sony Ericsson P1, but it seems only O2 are doing them atm. :(

Nokia E51 ? Same feature set as N95 except camera. Exchange push seems to work ok - just got handed one as a replacement for my old work phone.

It is very small though. Battery life is VERY good.

Considering that, it seems that if i want to connect my Lappy through the phone im going to have to get a business tariff anyway.  That means its in the list, but then that opens up a shedload more phones as well.  Cheers for the pointer, seems that may be a good option. :)
