Title: The Darkness are actually a real band?!
Post by: maximusotter on March 01, 2007, 15:56:32 PM

I saw the vid for "I believe in a thing called love" while flipping past MTV a couple years ago, and was like, "WOW, this is the best hair metal glam parody Ive ever seen!!", thinking that it was some sort of MTV in house thing. I mean, they got no exposure over here, just the single on MTV and no airplay.

So Im trying to find it again on Youtube, which was easy enough, and discover that theyre an actual band.

I cant believe they didnt get hooge stateside. Glammy cock rock is the best. :D

They are utter sh*t.  Humourus, entertainment and a laugh yes, good band, no.

They are the most overated overhyped nonsense to come out of the music industry for a long time imho.

They are one of those bands, that I said to myself when I first came across them, people will have forgotten them in a couple years time.

I got their first album. And when their second album came out I found they had already included it on the first one to save me having to buy it !

My current favorite on the album has to be "Love on the rocks, with no ice".

The whole vibe is bringing back memories of the shameless cock rock of the early 80s. Scorpions, Whitesnake, Ratt, etc. These guys are actually better in some ways. :P Still, I dont know if they can beat Mötley Crue on the Shout at the Devil tour. That was spectacularly camp (not that I realized it at the time  ).

It certainly starts off well, grabs your attention. Great glam rock riffage.

Then I got bored after a minute or so.  That and I found it harder to hear what he was singing with the constant falsetto.  Now I dont want to hear it again.

The second album is very poor.  It wasnt that it was just like the first album, it isnt, its just a bit boring.

My favourite is "Growing on Me" from the first album, especially since I learned the lyrics are about genital warts.  Listen to it with that in mind..

I saw them live supporting Deep Purple at Wembly Arena. As support acts go they rocked and I have their first album, but they were no match for Purple.

If anyone remembers the ad a while back for some furniture store that went "Schlomping is for you, schlomping is for me", it was written and performed by Justin when he was working in the jingle business.
