Out tomorrow?
Ive played everyone of the Laura Croft games and I guess Im going to have to buy a copy of this too.
Anyone else?
Might get it in a few weeks time depends what people think of it.
not being a fan of octagonal breasts, ill give it a miss.
The latest has been getting very good feedback from the people that have played the demo on xbox360 and pc. Review of the full 360 version gave it 8.2 so its looking good. I will know tomorrow :D
Oh, and the next Hot Coffee mod? http://www.xboxic.com/632.htm
It suprises me that they had an oppurtunity to target a larger audience, i.e. women, but decided to just tart her up again when it came to rebranding lara.
No complaints here being male and all, but it seems like a like a waste of an oppurtunity to increase the fanbase.

Once you get past the initial few minutes her looks dont really matter TBH, you spend far more time gawping at the scenery. At least I did in Tomb Raider 1. The Egyptian temples were very impressive ;)
And they have been superbly modelled so they bounce more "naturally". I bet there are more polygons used in her chest than the rest of her body. ;)
I really really enjoyed the demo! This one actually feels like its been designed for PC and not just ported! fantastic, eager to play the full game.
I just received Tomb Raider and the first thing it wanted to do was update my dashboard. I wonder why though. I thought I was on the latest version already. Version is now 2.0.2258.0 and I dont think the game supports 1280x1024, it looks squashed.
Well, its not the resolution. I tried the game at 1024x768 and it still looks squashed. Ah well. There are a number of things I like and dont like about the game. The first is that it screams that its an Xbox game that has been ported to the 360. The menu text is the same as what you will get on the Xbox, it looks scaled. Exactly a PS1 port looked on the PC where they made no effort to take advantage of the higher resolution the game will be run at. As previously mentioned, other models are very basic compared to Lara. They remind me alot of the goons from Sin. If I was Jeep, Id be be calling the lawyers on Core for making their Jeep Commander look like sh*t. Unless it really does look as bad as it does in the game.
On the other hand, the gameplay is pretty sweet. There are some nice touches with the controls although the left stick is very sensitive and it seems as though its not moving Lara in quite the direction I want it to. Lara has already dropped from a great height once because of that. I also like how in the intro they really take advantage of the power of the Xbox 360 by bump mapping her huge lips. There is a nice effect with the binoculars, Depth of field but also as you look around things further away come into focus where as near objects go out of focus. However, there does appear to be a hit in frame rate when looking around with the binoculars. The water effect is pretty kick ass.
And a final note, I thought they would have figured out to have a smooth sliding blade if you click the guide button while on the menu. Youd think that would be the least taxing of screens. OK, there is a large close up of the 1 billion polygons that is Laras chest yet it should be smooth. This has launch day title written all over it.

Laura has a tendancy to end up falling from a great height and ending up mashed potato. There was a bit in the first one when I was playing it with a few mates. We were definitely not sober but the item was a saved game and I had completed so it didnt really matter. The aim was simply to get her to dive from a platform at the top, do a swan dive through a hole and into water - simple really.
Except in our combined states none of us could manage it and then someone laughed, and then everyone was laughing and it became impossible to control the thing. I dont think we ever managed it but it was a load of fun trying
Poor Laura was terribly abused but seemed game enough to keep trying as long as we did.

How the hell could you spot that if you were playing the game, you have to e a bit of a perve.
Anyone seen cheaper than Ã,£17.99 on play.com for the PC version of this? put up other versions prices too ;)

I got this today and I cant get it to run... :( keeps crashing/freezing with a sound loop.
9800 Pro with Cat 5.10s
Soundblaster Live 5.1 (last driver available is dated 2004 :()
What are you guys managing to run this on? Im close to taking it back as Im well above the minimum specs. I updated the drivers for the 9800 to Cat 6.3s but I couldnt enable DirectDraw for some reason so Ive reverted back to 5.10s.
Will there be any value in upgrading my soundcard too?
Ã,Â
Try updating to Cat 6.3s? Im running it on an Xbox360 ;) One note, the PC version is based on the Xbox version and not the Xbox360 version, so it wont look as "good" as the 360 one. Good is relative...

Which version do you thinkn looks better?
Serious, http://uk.gamestracker.com/pc/9106/ You can save 2p by buying it from Tesco Jersey ;)
Tbh, them xbox 360 shots looks overly shiny and reflective, especially on laras face.
Cant knock them shadown on the 360 though :( but I cant stand the shinyness of all the 360 stuff, its like sometimes it tries too hard.

The X-box ones definitely needs some talc on her cheeks :D

Wow, great! Now I will have to work out what Im going to buy with all those savings ;)

Just ordered my PC copy from Play, hopefully it wont be PC though
Is shooting a lot of people and animals PC? :?

So you can have good graphics, just need a good PC!

is it me, or does it look better with features off, just not as much fancy lighting
I was thinking the same thing.
Still waiting for delivery.... :(
Might be here tomorrow, if Im lucky.
Its actually quite tricky, and im pleased with that. Ive not had much time to play it, onto the second "level" (its got a good story line so theres not really levels but its the second area.
I find myself dying + stuff, which to be honest is a relief. Im sick of games these days being too easy!
What are ya supposed to do on this bit?
http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2006/04/11/tomb_raider_legend_review/2.html
climb up the chain you see on the right, jump to the chain on the left when you hit the stop....
once on there, climb quickly and jump back above the stopper.
Quote from: PuNkIts actually quite tricky, and im pleased with that.
Some of it seems to be the controls being different to the previous ones, it might have been better leaving them more like the original.
I also preferred the original save wherever you liked, even if they limited the number of saves. Present saving seems biased towards consoles.
Im well after the bit sdp is going on about and Ive only had a couple hours play today.
I was looking all over the place for a switch or lever, duh :bangheadsmiley:
I think the control system is pretty good, much more fluid than the last pc tr I played.
Game running fine now, (maxxed-out) Im pleased to report!
What are you using for screenshots? FRAPS?
Anyone seen/used Laras bullet time slow motion attack? Its a neat touch, albeit a bit too matrixy! :)
Ã,Â
Completed the game last night, the last two levels were pretty poor to be honest, lasting five/ten mins each, if that! As I guessed now that the storyline is done ive got no urge to go on it again.
does it give you an overall player time?
A friend of myn she completed it two days after release and said it has to be the simplest Tomb Raider yet...
There are apparently wuite a few unlockables so it should have some replay value, plus the Achievements should be worth getting.
took me about 7/8 hours, the unlockables are rubbish, I got all the "secrets" in the mansion, and all I got was a few new outfits and more bullets in my pistol.
New outfits? what a load of pap!
Are you playing the 360 or PC version?
Quote from: Deaths HeadAre you playing the 360 or PC version?
Im on the PC version 12% complete in about three hours play. Ive just completed the bit where you have to find the three spheres and move them to the right places infront of the big statues which give a light show and you get an artefact. It isnt as good as the original IMO.
Quote from: Deaths HeadAre you playing the 360 or PC version?
PC.
And serious, thats not 12% at all, its more like 35%. The after game "secrets" that you need to get for all the "unlockables" account for most of the over all
percentage.my completed game, even after ive gone back and got the secrets from most of the levels is around 60.
I just think the game should of been longer. I was on a tombraider forum and someone suggested remaking the old tombraiders on the new engine.
I remember not being able to complete the old ones because they were too hard. So it sounds like a good idea to me.
aye thatd be a good idea, i can remember not being able to see stuff properly on the old tomb raider demo i tried.
like vine sprites getting in the way and covering up 70% of your vision

Bummer, in that case its far too easy TBH.

The original one was a lot longer but you could also pick up loads of health packs and carry them throughout the whole game. Your health was also restored at the end of every level so by careful management you could save loads of health packs for later on.
The actual game puzzles were also a lot harder, you would find a bit of broken equipment and then have to go and find the bits to repair it. In others you had to dodge balls. rubble or blades and go over flames. Some bits were damn difficult but I managed them and completed the game.
[edit] another 2 hours of easy gaming and it says 34%, far too easy :/  [/edit]
[edit] Stuck at a place where a large ball drops down and you have to get through some bar things. [/edit]
