Anything that includes green screen and you can pretty much bet that is where the budget has gone for that scene.

I caught the first 2 episodes in a rerun a few days ago.  Although I enjoyed it I was far from impressed.  Second problem/alien to deal with is a purple gassy alien that gets its life energy of male climaxes.  They end up catching it in a sperm bank clinic. :?

This is one of the reasons I started to get bored of BBC shows in general, the script writing.  These days it is cheesy, unimaginative, doesnt grab your attention for long and really is reusing old ideas.  Sometimes I think it has been aimed at children.

Actually, you know what, it really was just crap.  How many time count losts I had to watch panning shots of Cardiff I really just lost count.

The gassy alien was just about acceptable and the special effects dont make a series great or even just watchable, its very easy to get bored. A few other special effects were worse. Im sure they could do better providing you dont mind the licence costs going up.

Aimed at children? Not with the sperm bank episode. Really this is a severe problem with a lot of American TV series. There is only so many different main options for scripts anyway and most, if not all, of them have already been done at some point

Some of them were a bit long.

my mum and dad love looking at it because it Cardiff looks good on TV :D

Only live down the road, and they regularly film the scenes at the end of my road, and on my street where I work.

The millenium centre (building with all the writing on the wall/roof) is 30 seconds walk around the corner. :)

So Iââ,¬â,,¢ve just seen my first bit of Torchwood (Eps 2 and 4) and I can safely say Iââ,¬â,,¢m not liking it much if at all, it seems far to obsessed with making it self more "Adult" that it sticks in swearing and sex when its not needed which just ruins what there is of a storyline.

As for the storylines themselves they feel far too rushed with plenty of plot holes and things left unanswered or just ignored after they have happened.

Also after watching Episode 4 RTD has succeeded in making Captain Jack a complete arsehole who doesnââ,¬â,,¢t seem to care about the people around him which totally goes against how he was portrayed in Doctor Who.

He does completely depart from his original characterisation but the real issue is that he seems to change every episode or even during an episode. Sometimes he cares a lot and others hes a cold fish. I think it really goes a lot deeper than that though, they just dont have enough people working there. Its like Area 51 or the Enterprise being run by a half dozen people plus a cat, you just dont expect that. For every person on the away team there should be ten or twenty back at base keeping an eye on them and investigating any finds they bring back.

It also severely limits deaths and people being dropped. Can they trust Ianto Jones again? Way they dealt with his girlfriend was a bit diabolical too, and for at least some of them out of character.

Otherwise there are lots of sci-fi programmes out there with holes, the Star Trek ones had loads of them.

Thing is with Captain Jack in that ep of doctor who you dont know from when he is from. It could well be that the Captain Jack you see in Doctor Who is from the future of when Torchwood was set. As he did have time travel capabilities.

People shouldnt read too much into a program that has what 4 aired episodes...

At least give it a season to settle and get started, i agree there are plot holes but damn near all programs have them. Nobody comments on the location holes. I live in and know cardiff well and they seem to bounce from place to place in chase scenes with amazing skill.

I was looking forward to this show, but after watching the 4th episode I have concluded the show is rubbish!!!

Captain Jack (who was good in Dr Who) cant act his way out of a paper bag in this and isnt believable as a leader.

While the rest of the team come across as idiots quite a bit of the time, rather than being "sharp and bright", which you would need to be to be in such a team.

The dialog of all the cast  is truly cringe worthy at times, the "adult content" has felt added on and out of place in 3 of the 4 episodes, It screams "Ohh look Im adult content!!!", very clumsy script writing IMO.

I would be surprised if it gets a second series :(

Watch the U.S. show Heros if you want to watch a new, well written and acted Sci-Fi  show :-)

I have, they are so polished and unbelievable they makes me go :gag: far too often.

Ive been sky+ing Torchwood and finally got around to watching the first 4 eps last night, back to back.

Its ok, it has promise. Its doing that standard UK show thing of starting off flakey and without direction. Its almost as if the show is only there to get more money from the costumes that were bought for Dr.Who.

That said it is quite entertaining and even at 2 this morning I was sat their happily watching as opposed to being asleep.

Torchwood 4tw!!

Need sci-fi, must have sci-fi, where is the Sci-fi on tv? bring it on !!

On the subject of Captain jack and having not seen the first episode does it explain how he gets back from the future at all?

Ill probably stick with it for a few more episodes hopefully it will turn a corner soon.
