Title: Usenet
Post by: crazylegs on July 15, 2007, 18:01:40 PM
as my current server subscription is nearing an end
can anyone recommend a good usenet server as I haven't been overly impressed with my current supplier (maximumusenet)

^really slow speeds on header downloads which has been driving me mad

why you downloading headers? why not just use NZBs?

Giganews have been faultless for me.. Ive used a lot & they all go titsup eventually.. but I havent had any problem with giganews & ive now been with them for over 2 years.

tbh egg Ive only just signed up to site to get the nbzs, previously id been trawling the headers.

using newzbin - are there any other good search sites?

somethimes i just trawl the headers on some ngs to see whats new and grab it if it takes my fancy, rather than searching a usenet serach site.

i think maximumusenet are a reseller for highwinds never heard of them.

will check out the deals avaliable for giganews - cheaper onb the US site that UK, given the $ rate?

nzbsrus.com is free
binnews is another that charges
united-forums.co.uk is a good place as well

I pay about £15 for unlimited & I max out my 20mb NTL connection

im still waiting for my area to get the upgrade to 20mb
limping along on my 10mb till then

cheers for the heads up for giganews, i had been looking at them, just needed a vote of confidence before i go for them.

i paid $75 for 6month unlimited with my current supplier with downloads are constant at 9.5Mbps (90 day retention and 8 connections).
Doubt Ill be able to get another supplier that cheap though

Giganews is upping retention to 200 days and offers SSL encryption.

Im using NewsHosting right now, although thinking about switching.
