Title: Victory Pill
Post by: Cypher on October 28, 2007, 19:42:04 PM
A band I have to highly recommend....

Back in June I went to see Static-X at the carling academy Birmingham.  The support act was unanounced and a pleasant suprise.  They really caught my attention with their opening song, something not many support acts have managed to do with me.

After the gig I found who they were and several months on were here with their first album out.

The new project of ex Pitchshifter and part time Prodigy (noteablely on "Breathe" and "Firestarter") axe man and all round "mad egg" (to quote the Pitchshifter website) Jim Davies. The band was initially formed in 2004 by Davies, and the bands debut album was released earlier this month.

The self titled album itself is pretty good, for which I had high expectations of after such a good gig and finding out who it was.  Its an album that doesnt leave you hanging around waiting, Electro-Rock / Industiral is the closest genre Id put it in.  There is a blend of high precision programmed beats,  synthesized basslines and filter-swept arpeggios guitars put well into place.

I cant really fault the album, their is definately an electro influence with his work in previous bands, but this is definately his own work, the reason this band was formed in the first place.  My only complaint is the gneral production/mixing of the album isnt to good.

This why I love gigs so much, coming across talent you were not even aware of.  There is promise with this band.

Sometimes nothing comes out of a support act.  Or they completely change.  There was a support act called Cherry Falls that were fantastic, but the album never emerged.  The band is now renamed afaik.

Aqualung were an established band.  As far as I can see Kid Symphony only released one album back in 2004.  Yeah they were quite exciting.

Ive known about and been following the Pill since they were first formed, they are a great band and make quality music. I have had the good fortune to hang out with Jim back when he was in Pitchshifter and as well as being a bloody nice bloke, he also has the talent of making some of the best music I have heard.

I was with a friend in a sound control (Southampton) and she started slagging off pitch shifter. was amusing when we left, she went awfully quiet, guess who was behind us in the line :D
