Title: VoIP phones..... which one ?
Post by: knighty on December 28, 2010, 17:57:38 PM
my mothers/sisters want to get some voip phones....

anyone have any recommendations ?

last time I looked they were nearly all usb to run with Skype etc... but now from what I see most of them look to work independently of a computer ?

all 3 have wireless.... so that could work well if any of them use them ?

internet guilds/reviews arent telling me much... so I thought Id check for some first hand experience ;)

Make sure you get whatever Mark recommends that is 3x more expensive and not end-user servicable   -)

I was waiting for that.. and I imagine more than 3x more expensive, and will require some form of SIP server :)

But they will be amazing for email (if you happen to use 1990s software such as Outlook).

does skype use any sort of SIP or STUN ?

The older generation cisco wireless IP phones can be had for 30-40 quid on ebay.
