Title: webcamXP
Post by: addictweb on January 02, 2007, 18:25:11 PM
Now, im trying to setup a webcam. Ive tried and failed before but this time I really want it to work.

Im using webcamXP for the job.

Ive got it all set-up and working locally (on my 192.168.1.xxx ip) but I cant get it working on my WAN ip. When I try to access the WAN address I get problem loading page.

So, ive setup port forwarding on my router (Speedtouch 580) for ports 8080 and 9090. Ive also set a static IP for the host computer. Ive also put exceptions into the windows firewall for the ports 8080 and 9090 UPD and TCP.

Anyone know what the problem could be?

EDIT: Tried turning windows firewall off : no change

How are you trying to access your webcam? Where are you testing from externally?

I test from the same PC as I host it from by typing in

http://84.xx.xx.xx.:8080

and it doesnt connect. When I host it locally I can connect with http://192.168.0.x:8080 with no problems.

Something is blocking access and I cant work out what!

You wont be able to do that, your router should block attempts to get to that address from the same address. Youll need to get someone else to test it.

Youll probably have to use a machine not on your network. Your router will see you trying to go out to the internet only to come back in, itll look like a TCP Spoof attack.

ah, ok.

I tried another PC and failed, Ill see if I can find another wireless network around here somewhere.

Also, as a precaution I checked my ISP dont block any ports.

Cheers.

EDIT: Woooooo! It works. I knew I had everything set-up right!  Thanks so much Porch, much appreciated!

btw Its just a webcam on my poker room :-)

When I used Webcam XP many moons ago it was not capable of replacing the embedded IP with the public IP; it always used the IP of the hosting machine (192.168.x.x).

Therefore once you load the page of the web, the embedded viewer tries to link to the 192.168.x.x address and fails.
Your best bet is to "view source" of the webcam XP page, manually change the 192.168.x.x address to your IP, save and refresh.

Basically youll have to make your own page to hold the viewer.

edit: Bah, beaten by the edit :p
