Hi,
I have got the following setup for one of my PCs.
Pentium D 820 2.8
ASUS P5SD2-X motherboard running the latest bios
ATI Radeon X550
1 x 512mb DDR2 PC4200 Non-ecc/non-buffered
LiteOn 16x DVDRW
480w PSU
Now the problem is this:
I got hold of the Pentium D 2.8ghz recently and thought I could just replace the existing Pentium D 2.66ghz chip that was in there already. When I did, blue screen. I tried a Celeron 2.53 in the slot and it worked fine... so I thought CPU must be duff. I had it replaced and the new one does the same thing.
I have checked (or used another) VGA card, 2 other sticks of PC4200, a new IDE HDD, new (more powerful) PSU.
My initial thinking was that the change in the chips Pent D 805 runs at 533 (as does the Celeron-D) and the Pentium D 820 runs at 800. So perhaps the ram speed might be the problem. What speed DDR2 would people recommend using with the Pentium D 820 2.8ghz?
This is beginning to p155 me off.
Cheers

does the 2.66 still work ok ?
Id go back to using that :(
Have you reset the bios, taken the battery out etc?
Well I have since parted company with the Pentium D 805. I am currently running it on a celeron-d.
I have indeed reset the bios, and changed everything I can possibly think of to get this working.
Cheers

flashed the bios?? - sorry just seen you state latest bios.
I cant remember what FSB speeds the intel ones need,
but first thing id check is the list of supported processors on the MB manf. site.
only other thing is there a power problem? celerons need next to no juice, the 2.8 could be pushing it over the edge.
does the 2.8 ghz need the odd 1066 fsb ???
as asus s page states only 533 and 800 mhz fsb supported (http://uk.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=240&model=807&modelmenu=2)
*thinks he finally clicks*
sorry long day today, not taking in much info....
right blue screen = booting windows.
the Pent d 820 is dual core... 800mhz fsb, the 805 is 533 and im guessing the celeron is 553 fsb too??
right just looked on crucials site, PC4200 (ddr2) is 533 fsb
does the motherboard support mixed speed between the cpu and ram?
as you really need PC-6400 (ddr2) which is 800 fsb
