Title: Weird page not found thing
Post by: zpyder on March 23, 2008, 21:55:10 PM
Ok, heres a weird one. every now and again (like once a fortnight or so) my connection seems to partially drop out.

IE, I click a link on facebook, and suddenly Im getting page not founds. More clicking shows the whole of facebook is down. Checking other sites (google) and its fine so I figure that site is down and think nothing more of it.

But right now, facebooks down for me, and sos google, yet I can still access tekforums? Any idea what kind of glitch could cause this?

DNS is screwed.

Change them to ::
Primary :: 208.67.222.222
Secondary :: 208.67.220.220

There are better, but those are Open DNS and should be OK.

Corrected, and probably the root of the issue ;)

The ISPs in my area have all been providing the same kind of service (max 2mbps downstream) for ages pretty much. Weve stuck with Nildram as we owed it to them for actually getting us ADSL (going through the motions with BT twice with a saga of them testing the line saying it was testing fine and then not activating because it was outside cost limits...We told Nildram, BT played around with them as well saying the same stuff, so the Nildram people contacted BT and told them it wasnt on and got BT to send out an engineer and fix the problem. Turns out that our "fine" line test was actually on the border between ok and sending out an engineer and they hadnt thought to send one out even after we told them our troubles...)

Anyway, hopefully will move sometime soon. Be is looking to be setting up in our area in the next month or two...
