Been quite a bit since we had one of these threads so reccommend something ;)
Guinness book of military blunders by Geoffrey Regan, good military stuff although some of it is ancient. Think Dave would have a good laugh at it though.
cheers - might take a look at it
currently reading New Market Wizards by Jack Schwager - Tis a trading book so prob not too interesting for anyone else on here
and also Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser - Youll never eat at MacDonalds again - or at least thats what I told myself until I decided to treat myself to a bigger big mac the other day - youll also wonder a bit about the disney corporation

Jackspeak (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0951430521)[/b]
Tis teh bible.
The origin of a lot of wot we say (even in civvy street) is in there.
Priceless.

Quotage:
"...This is easily the fifteenth copy of Jackspeak that Ive bought over the years, and it just gets better with every edition. Its now the standard gizzit that I give Americans so they can understand a bit more of what this Pompey Girl says. Funny, genuinely informative, and as absorbing to browse through as it is essential for reference..."
Im currently splitting my time between Confucius "Annals" and Neal Ashers "Line of Polity". The latter is actually genuinly enjoyable sci-fi and always seems to strive to do something different to step away from tried and tested formulas. Very original in places and I dont think he gets the publicity he deserves; he creates a very immersive and enjoyable universe to read about.
Just finished A Short History of Nearly Everything By Bill Bryson excellent book i bought as it was in these very own Tekky bargins.
Just started The Hard Years By Joe Brown. A book about the greatest UK climber todate.
Looking to do War and Peace By Tolstoy soon :) or possibly the The Iliad by Homer. Both books i keep meaning to pick up...
Ive just been told to read All The Pretty Horses. Since I have nothing else to read I suppose I will.
Im reading House of Chains - Steven Erikson, the first 3 in the series were excellent but this ones only so-so so far.
Gah, Ive got several to finish, including "IBM and the Holocaust" and have a couple Svenski ones on the back burner like "Populärmusik från Vittula"

I dont really apreciate her style, its a bit too obvious whats going to happen, but a remarkable number of adults do read them. My mum has a couple of first editions somewhere...
Ive just finished Dan Browns Angels and Demons. Was very good imo, equally as good as (if not better than) The Da Vinci code :)
I have now read all four of his books and I have to say that I enjoyed them all, I like the "everything happens in one day" style of plot :)
I am just about to start Paul Davies "How to Build a Time Machine"
you read them in the wrong order then! ya noodle.
Angels and Demons is the prequel to the da vinci code see :)
Currently Reading "Target One" but dont know the author at the mo im in work :)
Yeah I know I read them in the wrong order. Tbh it doesnt really make any difference to either story. Besides, I borrowed TDVC off of a friend and after reading it I went and bought a 4 book set for the others :p
edit: lmfao. I dont think I couldve used another comma in that short little statement ! Slight edit for my own sake ;)
Now reading Northern Lights, got brought for me as a present about 6 months ago and have only just picked it up

Providing you accept it as entirely fictional then they are a good read...
...but anyone who believes them is a nutter.

House of leaves.
Its one seriously weird book, but pretty clever too. Cant help but feel sometimes that theres a fair bit of paper wasted going on.
Most recent book Capacity - Tony Ballantyne
A future world where real people, computer constructs and robot AIs have equal rights, but there are flies in the paradise ointment. An interesting and in many ways heroic but ultimately flawed play on real and virtual reality. Worth trying but in the end it lacked something for me.
Might as well sticky this then peeps can add stuff as they want.
Peace and War trilogy, as well described elsewhere!
Recommend it highly. The first book in the omnibus is the best, the other two fall short of the bar, that was raised quite highly in the first book, but are still good yarns.
Reading "The Strain" by Guillermo del Toro
Only half way through but already its resident evil meets bram stokers dracula.
Loving it

Since getting my kindle I've been reading a lot more (even though I always read a lot anyway).
Hmmm recently read:
Name of the Wind: Patrick Rothfuss - Good fantasy book and the 2nd book will hopefully be out soon after being delayed 2! years.
Mass Effect 1 & 2 - Was replaying the games so thought I would re-read the books, was good rereading the 1st as there was a lot I didn't pick up on when I first read it as I hadn't played any of the games.
Currently reading Hokkaido Highway Blues by Will Ferguson. This guy hitched from one end of Japan to the other following the cherry blossoms. Finding it a informative and entertaining read :)
Onkyo Instruction Manual
Tekforums
Haunted Sheffield
Solitary Fitness - Charles Bronson.

All the Discworld books. Again.
I fancied reading some discworld the other day and since I couldn't remember where I had got to I was thinking about starting again. Can't decide the order to read them in tho... Published or by 'arc' ... hmmmmm.
I'm just about to finish '1812: Napoleon's Fatal March on Moscow' by Adam Zamoyski. A lovely new take on the first total war :worried:
I'm mixing between The Book Thief, and Stephen Fry's autobiography. Both are really good, and because Stephen uses lots of big words in his book, it makes me feel slightly more intelligent (:
The Book Thief is about a young girl in Nazi Germany and narrated by death, so slightly more of a downer, but a good book nonetheless.
Beanissocoollike, if you like Stephen Fry's writing, his fiction is also well worth reading. I couldn't put down "Making History".
I just finished "I Shall Wear Midnight", not Pratchet's best but very enjoyable. One of these days I'm going to start from the beginning and read the lot, as I'm pretty sure there are discworlds I haven't read due to the chaotic order in which I've read them.
I'm reading CCNA books which are boring me to death and I'm half-way through proof-reading a sci-fi thing for a wannabe author.
