My internet connection over the last few weeks has been shocking. Dropping every 10mins (occationally you would get a few hours) yesterday is would not SYNC at all so I phone talk talk and BT.

BT said there was no problem on the line but 'cleared' it anyway. I told talk talk what BT said and they went through all the obvious things like switching on and off, filters and RJ11 cables etc and I told them I had tried all that.

So they have arranged for an engineer to come and have a look tomorrow afternoon.

These where typical STATS from the router yesteday (fo the few secs it SYNC'd):

I forced the router to connect ADSL2, ADSL2+ and AnnexM and they all looked petty much the same (on ADSL2 the attenuation went down to 53 but SNR stayed at aound 0.
Before yesterday it would jump up and down between 8 and 2.5

I switched the router off last night as the flashing adsl light was mocking me, I just got in now and switched it back on and it SYNC'd and connected straight away and has been 100% stable so far (only 21mins)

ok it just dropped again after an amazing 30mins, the SNR plumetted and it dropped, but reconnected straight back up with the same stats as in OP.

edit: SNR now dropped to 8~

First off, if you have tried removing the faceplate, different router, filter, then there is no option to relieve you of £160+vat.
You've proved that the problem isn't within your remit.

Sometimes these problems are intermittent, and BT can't charge you willy nilly every time they don't see a problem.

Wait for the engineer, he might find something.  He might be a moron and not.  Luck of the draw.

If you have removed the faceplate, accidentally lose it.  The BT man should replace it with a shiny new filtered one.

i already have one of those filter plates and have tried a normal one in the test socket

been perfect for over an hour now, typical when the engineer is coming tomorrow.

Least you got some stats to slow him when he turns up, if he actually listens it at least shows your not an idiot (but he might be )

he's been and decided it is the router that is faulty so has given me a new talk talk one, all seems well at the mo but it was lasting for an hour or so with the old one so we will see.

I would assume most people don't have spare routers lying around. At least the engineer acknowledges that average users arn't likely to spot router problems and therefore they won't charge?

Yeah i tried another router but cant remember why i stopped using it maybe that was faulty to. Time will tell i guess. Not home till 6 now and then away all weekend.      Typed on crappy phone.

I'm sure when threatened with the prospect of an abortive visit charge of £160+ Vat you might suddenly remember that you may have friends with routers willing to let you borrow it for an hour or so.

been away since friday evening and come home today, the router has been sync'd for the last 35hours so it must have been the old router. wasnt expecting that.
