Can be sci-fi, action, anything you you like
For me I think there is about 4-5
Quantum Leap was and still is just amazing.
The new Battlestar Galatica while not being shown at good times is very well written and styled and I enjoy it a lot
Smallville - I am a fan - so what?
Red Dwarf - Enough said just naming it
Deep Space Nine - Slow going but when the Dominion Wars Kicked off it was really good
LOST
Firefly
Nexus Honroable mentions...
Due South - loved this
Space Above and Beyond
Diagnosis murder - I am a fan, so what of it?
DragonballZ
Simpsons
The new Battlestar Galatica is without a doubt the best drama on TV bar none. The best hosted (non acted) show is Top Gear for me.
Lost
Family Guy
24
ER (keeps reinventing itself)
Boston Legal (the monologue at the end makes any storyline worth it + it has Shatner 8) )
Monk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monk_%28TV_series%29) (Like Columbo, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbo) but with excess hand washing)
In all of TV history? Thats hard. In my lifetime Ive been most struck by both Twin Peaks and Northern Exposure.
you cant decide on different forms of genius.
For me, 24, all the way.

Indeed, its one of the very few things on TV that can actually extract an bona-fide physical reaction from me. Its awesome, end of.

old stuff:
Red Dwarf
Only Fools
Blackadder
You wanna get out more ;-D
for me :-
The Simpsons
League of Gentlemen
V
Monkey Magic

I completely forgot about Twin Peaks, especially the later episodes. Fantastic viewing. I also missed Bodies, that was a cracking piece of drama.
Not watching any ATM. Looking forward to House MD series 3 though.
House is good, despite Hugh Lauries awkward "American" accent. Its like hes trying to do a Minnesotan James Rockford (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockford_Files).
X-Files was good once apon a time....

I was going to say it but they spoilt it, they just went to bonkers and even if you were 100% up to date if you went for a piss you would then be f**ked for the next 3 episodes as you would not have a clue what the bloody hell was going on
As for "you cant choose different forms of greatness" I suppose it is true and you need to categorise them i suppose.

He gave up on the dodgy accent quite quickly and almost went back to his normal one. We have series 1 on dvd, waiting for series 2 to drop in price to a reasonable level. Its one of the few programmes I can watch repeatedly and still find interesting. The dry humour certainly has some sand in it :)
if you happend to be using your friendly download program youd be up to series 3 epp. 14.
(that that Id condone that of course)
TNG
Red Dwarf
Only Fools
Blackadder
The Simpsons
Family Guy
Sharpe
Due South was great too, I used to enjoy that as well.
For me, 24, Prison Break, House and Greys Anatomy. I liked nip-tuck as well but the last season (4) was not that great.
Humour - Coupling UK - Seinfeld US
Sci-Fi - Space above & Beyond & New BSG (Stargate Sg1 & SGA good too especially for additional humour)
Smallville is a favourite, glad they are including the justice league in episodes.
24 is excellent action series.
Historical - Rome (although I claudius was brilliant in its time)
House
Lost
Heroes
Dave.
Coupling (UK)
Black Books
Hustle
House
Stargate Atlantis & SG1
Top Gear (always been a fan since the short fat man who I cant remember the name of was in it)
BUGS (havent watched it in years!)
Scrapheap challenge.
Due south, Space Precinct, Prince of Bel-air, TNG, and Quantum Leap and Space: above and beyond all get honourable mentions.
badly dubbed porn.
Forgot to mention Rescue Me (http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/rescueme/), which I hope will be back this year. :D
BTW, if you like indie rock--the Rescue Me Soundtrack (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rescue-Me-Original-TV-Soundtrack/dp/B000F3UQZG/sr=8-5/qid=1172330174/ref=pd_ka_5/202-9679756-4593447?ie=UTF8&s=music) is blimmin great. :D

I do not class sharpe as a series, but tv movies that were just the dogs, its a greater status then a tv series :)

They sort of lead on a bit more than the average movie, but yeah you cant really class them as a series in the conventional sense. Especially the recent two parter special.
