I was entertaining the possibilty of getting a new monitor. My current one is a 17", I was wondering what it would be like to get a nice shiny big one.
So what should I go for? I was looking at something along the lines of a 22" widescreen, does that sound sensible?
the current dell range are impressive
multiple inputs, card reader, usb hub
and they look stunning
this is 24" but look at the spec

My local Costco has 22" ViewSonics for $300.

Why is a standard 22" widescreen cheaper than the ultrasharp 20"? Other than all the extra features, are the panels the same? Dont think I could stretch to anything more than the 20" ultrasharp, but Id rather have a bigger one.
The ultrasharps have different (better) screens in them and from what Ive seen are worth the extra money... Dell at some point soon are releasing their ultrasharp monitors without all the extra inputs, card reader, usb etc etc for a cheaper price so may be worth waiting for them.
I have a Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP 24" which Ive had for about 4 months now and I love it, so impressed (use it for PC & 360)
Overclockers (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-009-DE) do it for slightly cheaper with an extra 1 year on the warrenty (Ã,£550)

i dont think they are directly comparable between crts and tfts, but im with you at the moment im happy with my trinitron flatscreen.
:) Every LCD/TFT monitor I see - even high-end ones - have such a gash picture. Im really not convinced about em. :(
If anyones interested, I went for the Samsung 226BW in the end.

I bought myself this one for Christmas, excellent screen for the price.
And very fast display, Ive played Joint Operations, Brothers in Arms, and Quake 3 & 4 and lovely crisp sharp image with no ghosting at all.

Personally I would have a samsung 21" widescreen monitor, or I would have a samsung le23r71bdx television and use the HDMI or VGA socket for Pc use.
21" is a bit of an oddball size for a tft. most are 20" or 22" at the mo, both of which operate at the same resolution.
The 226bw that I just ordered is HDCP compliant, which is probably what the vista compatible thing is aluding to. Cant see it really making a spec of difference to me, unless a mate brings round a ps3/hddvd drive or something :S
Whatever you go for make sure it is HDCP compliant. Personally Id consider samsung or dell.
