I remember playing F/A-18 Korea or something and I never understood it but shooting my wingman with ASRAAMs was fun. Im after a flightsim to play when Im bored, with shiny jet planes in. Something modern, something with real planes (not lasers etc). Any suggestions?
Best flightsim I ever used was something like F22 Raptor.
Simple interface, and was mainly for just quick 10 minute fragfests :)
Turning off radar and relying on awacs for getting through radar nests, and using flares and chaff against sams, bombing ground targets, and just generally playing around with the different things... like flying up to 50,000ft and turning off your engines and doing an entire mission whilst gliding. Take out the bad guys using the asraams from above the clouds, task your wingman to take out the ground targets, and concentrate on just landing at the airport.
Heck even turning on your wingman, your own airbase (you could bomb it to hell and back when you took off), then going to take out the Awacs and its escorts. :D
Used to love that game, think it was made by Novalogic.
Wonder if any games exist like it now?
Sorry didnt exactly add anything useful to your thread, but im interested in this too.
Doesnt need to be graphically intense, but does require some control over realism, and I hate faffing around with multiple screens when all I wanna do is fly around in my jet plane, dodge sams and blow up things :) I dont want to be concerned with changing radio frequencies, or other things.
Kickass: Found a demo of it again, and found a place where you can download it for $9 :D Brilliant!

F-22 lightning 3 demo there. gonna give that a whirl :)
nice find! :D kick ass! :D
il2 was awesome. flying at its best imo.
Falcon 4.0
Never equalled.

Lock-on was ment to be good but very very realistic (to the point of its alot of effort)
Falcon 4.0 was just faff!!! had a demo of that, stupid fiddly MFDs and pressy buttons thing, spent most of my time trying to figure out the damn interface than flying!
Ã,Â
Then realistic flight-sims are not for you. ;)
F-16 pilots practice on it. Factâ„¢
Ã,Â
rofl sadly not then :) I can deal with it in Flight Sim 2004. But crikey... when im trying to figure out the damn flight controls I do not want to get shot up the ass. :D
Nuclear bombs are pretty! too :D lol bloody annoying when you drop them below 10,000ft and try and speed away. Just aint gonna happen.
Lock On : Modern Air Combat is one of the best "modern" sims. (Im not counting F4 since even with AF its lacking in a few areas).
You should be able to pick up the original game plus Flaming Cliffs expansion for very little now.
http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?lang=en
Incidentally the SU-25T SU-25 flight models with the Flaming Cliffs expansion are the best and most realistic ever produced in a simulation.
The Black Shark expansion will be released soon which will allow you to fly the Kamov KA-50 attack helicopter as well (with a high fidelity flight model). Thatll bring the total flyables to nine (F-15C, Mig-29A, Mig-29C, Su-25, Su-25T, A-10A, Su-27, Su-33, Ka-50).
Edit : If its a quick blast you are after then Wings Over Europe will suit you fine. http://www.boldgames.com/products/woe/woe.html
Cheers for the heads up for Wings over Europe there Chris :)
Edit:
One game I did use to enjoy quite a bit was Commanche (cant remember what version) any chance anyone knows the latest revision to it?
novalogic - commanche 4 ?
commanche (or apache?) vs hokum ?
ahhh its commanche 4 :)
Janes Attack Squadron was a pretty good WW2 game. Had a lot of fun with it over network.
Falcon 4.0 was technically great but I must admit it was a little too realistic for me.
Couldnt get to grips with Lock On either. Im still looking for the perfect flight game.....
.......actually I think it was Janes US Navy Fighters from years back.....

Got the demo, how are you supposed to aim the gun? Also how are you supposed to know when a missile is heading straight for you?
the gun is aimed when you fly the plane :D lol.
The wavey lines show how much it deviates... the crosshairs are fixed to where it would be hitting if you wernt flying through the air.
You can see missiles on the radar in the top right, if you zoom in enough, they tend to also "beep" fast when one is incoming.
if its the american gun sights, theyll probably be using the big windsock type thing.
theyre meant to be so if your in a constant turn with the opponent, it shows you how far you need to lead the plane.
when the wingtips of his plane (think its calibrated to mig 29 sized?) touch both sides of the tube then youve got the correct amount of leading and should let rip.
bigger planes might have to overlap the lines before you hit.
Just picked up lomac again and ive forgotten 90% of the controls.
still I can still aim mavericks from the safety of my x52 so i was happy :D
i installed falcon 4, the newer DVD box one not the original ive got, but when i couldnt remember how to fiddle with the radar to get a lock, i gave up, just havent got enough time now days....
if i had as much practice at it as a military pilot id have another go, but supreme commander has got my attention atm
think i rememeber navy fighters, had f-14s you could pilot, f-18s for bombing missions id always moan at as they always needed bloody drop tanks to get there AND back, lol.
I honestly cant think of a single arcadey flight sim at the minute, commanche 4 was pretty good on normal for it but nothing recent comes to mind.
heck i remember playing "air attack" on wireplay as the last really arcadey combat flying game, WW2 fighters.
Airfix dogfighter was good for a laugh, fly model WWII planes around a house and cause havok.
Its fairly old though, not sure how it would react to a modern machine.
I loved that game :D

2 seconds... WALL... LAMP... FLOOR.. BOOM. Repeat ad infinitum :D lol
I used to play AirAttack on Wireplay too :D It rocked! :D

I never got into AirAttack as I used to play Air Warrior on Kesmai many years before and it was pretty much the same thing. Aces High is quite good if youre into that sort of thing and dont mind a small monthly sub, sort of the next Air Warrior.

http://www.outrun.org/afterburner/ - the best :)
/I just got a copy of F-22 III and its good, still cant do the guns too well though :D
The last flightsim I played was Gunship on the spectrum
Quote from: MarkThe last flightsim I played was Gunship on the spectrum
That ruled - in fact I still own that!!
Chuck Yeagers Air Combat FTW
srsly, how do you do the guns? It took me 2,500 rounds to shoot down 3 migs and a chopper last night.
You get 2 wiggly lines, a tiny little crosshair that sometimes appears, a funny w-shaped thing and then the other crosshairs as well, but then the rounds go in a different direction to anything. And while Im thinking about all this the migs run circles around my plane. I think I need a stick thing.
Sidewinders are awesometastic tho 8)
lol just practice sdp :)
Only way I can get close enough to use guns is to fly 10ft off of the floor using wingleveling, and near vmax so that any missiles coming I can just jink and swerve around them. The bastards just fire on me too soon! :D
Wings Over Europe isnt as good.
The cockpit is either too small in the normal view, or you lose every single bit of information when you turn off the cockpit structures, and rely on the little grey box. Its very meh..
Also ammo you dont know how much ammo you have left due to no counts being visible. So you just end up out of ammo and unable to do anything. :(
F22III is so much better :D
Ah, the days when DiD ruled flightsims... they were the days. Then they made Wargasm. :(
indeed... F-22 and EF2000, did love DiD games :D

Edit your post title you swine. Youre obviously not after a flight
sim but a flight
game.

that may have been the greatest dogfighting game ever - I had totally forgotten about that.
btw the little crosshair, is it in the pipe with two lines going through perpendicular to the pipe???
im sure i saw some sims where itd tell you where in the pipe you should aim if youve locked the plane up.
as radar means it knows distance, relative speed etc, so can calculate where you should shoot in the pipe :D
