Thats part of the issue. The text is "over sharp" on our HP.

And a smooth gradient of colour from white to deep blue while the epson did it seamlessly the HP prints it out and you can see dithering like you would get on a cheap LCD.

hmmm so the epson takes it takes .. interesting...

Do you have the HP 3600n by any chance or does anyone else?  That was my original choise but it seems the HP 3600n and the 2600n can onyl print at 600 x 600 - can you increase it via software to say 1200 dpi or 2400dpi ?
