Title: Win 7 64 bit strange behavior
Post by: bigsteve on August 19, 2010, 14:38:44 PM
Installed Win 7 64 bit on my new SSD & all is great except for 1 strange thing.
Can only change the background to solid colours unless i use a background off the net ^^
Have tried in Aero & classic but no joy.
Surprised how long it took to install(under 10 mins from start to desktop) , even managed to get my nebula Tv USB  working fine ,
boot & turn off times are really quick , about 4 secs to exit windows.
General apps load instantly basically.
Playing LOTRO is greatly improved , load screens about 1/2 the time.
All in all after a bit of getting used to Win 7 is a

I dont know about the problem but after reading this i feel a great urge to go out and buy an SSD

Out of interest, which SSD are you using?

OCZ Vertex 2 64 gb.
Big enough for my boot disc & LOTRO.
Will get another to put games on but will have to wait , by the way using HD Tach  the SSD
is faster reading than my £1000+ 15000 rpm  scsi Raid of a few years ago  8-)
Getting 250 m/s burst .

Maybe a numpty suggestion, but when you say about net backgrounds, are you meaning the ones pre-installed on W7 wont work and youve had to save one off of the net?

At uni I had a similar problem, but that was due to the imaging/cloud system. Turned out that if the image was listed as a bmp rather than jpg itd work, or vice versa!

The 1s preinstalled dont work , saved a piccie off the net(is a JPG) to my HD  & tried to use as background & no good ,
same piccie if i save as background in Firefox it works.Maybe something to do with installing latest ATI drivers because
i,m sure it was fine with the 1 that loaded during Win 7 install .

Problem solved :)
Went to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\ & deleted transcoded image there ,
works fine now.
Amazing what 4 hrs of Googling can do.

Not sure why , may be the drivers or me being a total numptey.
If u google the problem there are masses of people with the same problem so probably can occur
under certain circumstances.
