Ok, So I installed Vista ultimate yesterday to have a play and find out what the new operating system Microshaft are trying to shove down our throats.

Even from the start I was trying to hate it? (the little voice in my head told my to stick with xp)
So start the install with no problems, finish the install with no problems,    One thing I liked about the Vista install was that it asked all of the questions at the beginning instead of having to hang around waiting for random questions to pause the install halfway through.

Booted up and still no problems, logged in all fine.
Now sitting here thinking well this is pritty whats the catch, but apart from having to fiddle with my modem driver all was/is fine.

So apart from using 20-30% more resources Im enjoying Vista but how long will it last????
When with Microshafts software show its true coulors.

Install you software, use your hardware, play some games, check your memory useage etc.

I still hope the rumours are true and this "gaming" version gets released which basically strips all what people most hate about vista but keep the cool stuff.
The interface is defiantly the right step

At very least service pack 2 should have much of the issues sorted and if they bother to actually sort the 64bit version so it actually runs faster then 32bit.

yea, gonna order my 64-bit CD very soon... just wanna make sure there are 64 bit drivers for all of my peripherals first

to be honest, i like vista... i dont find it slow, i find it more responsive than XP and looks a lot nicer

im running a Pentium Dual Core @ 3.2ghz, with 2gb RAM  & an nVidia 7600GS 512mb though so i could see lower end spec PCs struggling slightly with the vista premium features

Im on a Amd 64 4000 @ 2.4Ghz 1gig kingston ram and Ati 9600xt.
It runs fine for me.

the problem seems to be that some people find their system runs INCREDIBLY slowly with Vista.

Ive not actually installed it yet as I have so much work going on all saved on my main machines Im not willing to tinker till theyre done.

Things like this are reassuring tho :)

With every patch people say it gets better, but I am still going to hold off till some service packs and maybe this other version come out.

Jaitsu

yea, to be honest i was really annoyed with vista when i first installed it

the wireless networking on it is terrible, but after submitting countless error reports to microsoft support staff they sent me a hotfix through windows update which seems to make it far more stable

but expect random disconnects and connection problems if you have a router thats over 2 years old (even with the latest firmware - which helps but does not solve the issues)

this hotfix is not available to everyone yet, although you can request it... its apparently going to be made public in the first service pack

Serious

According to the reviews less than 1gb ram cramps Vista so it doesnt work well. Even with the 1GB ram it isnt quite as fast as XP on most machines.

A minimum spec 1.6 celery with 512MB ram isnt going to be up to much at all.

thats what vista basic is for

Serious

Even with basic the minimum spec ones I have seen wont play a dvd without skipping. Reviews point to the same problem.
