Title: wireless access point
Post by: neXus on February 06, 2008, 00:03:42 AM
Hi all, no chance it seems getting a cable from phone point to my room as its on different floors and a fairly big house here so I am not ditching my expensive wired router but want a wireless access point to connect into it to then pick up from my pc which has built in wireless so do not need any router aspect, just one tha tcan plug into a wired router and send receive the data

Would like a 100mbps one if possible but any good one will do. No need to find me a good price from shop links in UK as I am not there but just do not know product etc to be looking for as I am a wireless noob

Cheers

Have you got a laptop or do you just not want to run a cable?

If the latter then I would recommend getting one of the Ethernet over electrical devices. Youll never hit 100Mb on wireless and if youve got even a reasonable size house then the walls will cut it down straight away.

I had a solid 50-56Mb wireless and was amazed at how much faster the 200Mb HomeplugAV kit was.

Is it one you can run DD-WRT on, then you can use it as a wireless bridge.

I will ave a look at the homeplug but your a bit behind the times in terms of wireless now, its better then that[code]

Binary, as I said uk online shops are now meaningless so names of products is just what I am after but thanks for that, will look to find that out
