What do I need to get onto XBlive with the 360?
Points? XBLive subcription or are there any games that I can play online or things I can do online for free?

the silver service allows for a fairly basic service, you can play games online but alot of the other stuff aint free.
the gold service is pretty much a pay monthly system that gives you access to everything
only thing you need points for is purchases of additional content, bonus game packs, music, videos etc
as i said, just connect it to an internet capable network and you are sorted, go explore
