So updates will be for it being a shipped product still to fix bugs etc so I am sticking with it till windows 7
Agreed. With the latest move microsoft have just cut their market for vista by more than half Id imagine.
There is no point upgrading to vista right now unless you want DX10 and swishyness. :)
basically if they hadnt done this they would have handed the low cost laptop market to the Open Source community on a silver platter
Microshaft are many things, but stupid isnt generally one of them.
QuoteWindows XP reaches its end of life on 30 June but Microsoft has now said it can continue being sold until June 2010 but only on cheap desktops
Microsoft Windows XP Home with SP2 - OEM - £54.05
Microsoft Vista Home Basic 32BIT Edition DVD - OEM - £54.05
Cheap Desktops? So why is the software for both xp and vista the same price? Are they both designed for "Cheap" desktops..... -)
Its the hardware. They know it runs like crap on a £200 box.

I fail to see why the story is on UK news sites then tbh ! -)
So whats the limit of a cheap desktop? £200, £300?
I cant still really see the fuss over Vista. Either buy it or dont.

MS have a low spec system discount for for XP for Systems such as the Eee and OLPC
OEMs pay an absolute pittance for XP OEM
My brother bought a cheap laptop from Currys today, under 300 squid with Vista premium installed on it.
If you take into account the hardware they cant be paying that much for Vista either.

This is my point, they both cost around the same price for single license to a system builder.
/wonders if they will release a Home XP-EEEE Edition Lite OEM to system builders :P to counter the fact all these EEE EEE EEE pcs use linux
