Simple question. If i have an inverter that takes a 3 supply phase input. Can i connect the output motor in delta?
yes :-)
just connect it, and it'll work :-)
Wowser.. That takes me back. Power engineering on my ONC. Was it Star for the other type?
Should be Star ideally with a 3-Phase input on the inverter.
Motor dependant obviously, smaller motors are normally Delta for single phase input inverters, Star for 3-phase input inverters.
Yeh i use both 1ph and 3ph input inverters. 1ph always delta i know that. But was unsure about 3ph as although i have only ever seen them connected in star. Someone recently suggested connecting a 3ph input in delta. And why not it seems. Thanks
Because it is wrong in theory ;) Unless it's a large motor, and then it should be.
Why exactly is it wrong in theory? I can have a guess but its tricky to find a good explination as to why it is wrong.
No idea on any of this, googling to find out what everyone is talking about!
Does this help?

The link XEnitys post explains it very well.
