Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Pelosi) was sworn in as Speaker of the House (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speaker_of_the_United_States_House_of_Representatives) today. Thats 2nd in line from the presidency. 8) Highest woman in government ever, and she represents San Franciscan progressive values.
Additionally, the House has a large Democratic majority now, and the Senate is Democratic as well, albeit by a small margin.
Bush has officially had the rubber stamp taken away and is to have his balls cut off in the next few months.
:w00t:
good to see the democrats gaining some control
pity it is a woman though
we had a woman PM once and that turned out to be a a bit of a mess
I thought ole Ironsides was a drag queen.

The sale of low sulphur diesel and diesel engined cars would be another good step - but thats already happening! Yay! We might all have fuel in 10 years time

Im not impressed with the BBC at all with that pile of horsesh*t:
1. No congress person, senator, or POTUS or member of the SCOTUS has EVER taken the oath of office on any book ever in the history of the US. In fact, the way that the constitution is worded, it would be unconstitutional. A book is often used for the photo-op afterwards.
2. The representative had his photo op taken with an English translation of the Koran, thus it is not actually a Koran at all. Its like having your hand on "Charleton Heston reads the hebrew bible" on cassette!
3. This can all be traced back to the racism of representative Goode (R, Va.), who has led "the outcry" of fabricated BS, claiming that this is the unraveling of traditional American society.
4. Just so were clear, he had his hand on a not-holy-or-sacred English translation of the Koran for a photo op.
5. This is the most unimportant item in the news today. Especially considering that its not true.
Does anyone really care if its a translation or not?
Except for maxi and Ice Kay?
the symbolism is still great.
yes it may be an insult to the holy book as it has been preserved in its state since it was given to man. no interpretive writing by monks in the 4th-23rd century*
*may be actually very true :P

Why are you trying to be provocative? I pointed out that the media is telling a lie, but you want to start an unnecessary argument about the fine points of Islam.
My point is that there was no public swearing in on any book at all, and that the media frenzy has to do with a fake story. Its a lie.
So now you want to lump me in with Ice Kay as some sort of adversary? Im not coming to the fight, because I dont know what the hell youre on about.

How can there be symbolism when an event didnt happen? Can you people read?! NO CONGRESSPERSON SWEARS IN ON ANY BOOK EVER. Jesus, sometimes the stupidity is contagious.

/very laid back...
maxi, why are you assuming my post is provocative? Although you did make a meal of pointing out things in your post, if it wasnt an issue why point it out so strongly?
I only included Ice because for him it would is definitely an issue, he would argue that everyone should learn arabic or something and read from an untranslated version.
Kennedy used a catholic bible & there have been a few jews with thier toras + one mormon text used
Also as max has pointed out the official ceremony doesnt involve a text anyway - it is only the unofficial photo op session that some of them bring a religious book along with them for a photo op
Some of the US just seems to have a major problem with muslims post 911 - even at govt level - just look at the crap from both the major US political parties when dubai wanted to buy P&O

Maggie was asked by a young schoolkid if she thought there was going to be a woman Prime Minister and she actually answered she didnt think there would be in her lifetime. So you may be right.
OTOH where did her totally gormless son come from and her not so stupid daughter? :/
Was Mark thatcher a Caesarian birth? He certainly would never have been able to find the way out by himself, even with a map and directions...

So was the whole
Jefferson Koran thing a fake/staged?
Just curious...
I dont care even chotto either way, brain needs room for more worthwile kanji! :P
neither - it was brought along for the photo op
religious books arent used when actually taking the oath and swearing into congress - just some people bring along bibles etc.. for the photo op
This is apostacy :x :x :x
An english language koran, a muslim without a beard & his wife was not covered from head to toe as ordered by allah - I put a jihad on them.
