Evening all,
I've been meaning to get back in touch with some of you for a while now, but not had the time.
Seeing as I've just upgraded, and going back water / phase cooled i thought i'd drop by :-)
Can't believe it's been so long - some of my water-cooling pics date back 12 years, LOL!
I was an old time lurker, never really contributed much since I joined a long long time ago.
I am not sure how many years since Bigforums :)
Many moons ago in a galaxy far far away
So there IS still life from the old lads? :)
What about... Serious, Sam, Big Steve, JK, Ice Kay, JessFM, Matt5cott, Cl0ck'd, Deaths Head, Knighty, Soopahfly, erm............
hiya! how you doing ?
pretty much everyone still pops in now and again
forum is a big quiet now, but I think most people check every day :-)
Bleedin' Ell! What's going on here :S
Zombie's I tell thee!!
Now there's a username I've not seen in ages, welcome back C0ol
I still pop on every day, I've been a bit lax over Christmas though, too much food and drink to consume!
Out of your list Serious and Matt5cott are still yet to show up in here but are still regulars, Sam doesn't show up very often but still pops on if something interests him. the others all hardly ever come on, Death's Head vanished ages ago probably around the time the server crashed once again
Big forums.....why does that ring a bell. i always thought i registered when it was tek forums but now u mentioned big forums its buggin me lol. does this make me an old timer. used to use it loads but havent used it for ages. not long re joined these forums
I'm here, I'm using this brief chink of sobriety over the Christmas period for this sole post

I think you might well have joined in the phase when it was Big Forums for a while, lots of people didn't care for the name though so it did switch back eventually ;D
Think I joined when it was bigforums perhaps, sexytw let me know about this place as it was the place for bargains and freebies.
Everyone is out of College, Uni etc and working, family, getting or got married, engaged, having kids etc.
All older :)
Well, it's nice to see some of you are still around and doing ok!
Anyone actually still heavily into Overclocking / cooling?

Did I? I thought you were already on here when we met at uni.
I joined when I was in about year 8 of school, so approx 1998.
Welcome back COoL, doesnt seem that long since I last saw your intel COoL avatar.
I remember the bigforums time, would have been when I was in college doing a btec and cisco course about 2003 with Faulky he was the one that introduced me.
Joined when it was the OCS forums, overclocking socket A chips with pencils and delta fans :)

Yeah yeah, after a huge hiatus, got an i5 nicely clocked up on air, and an oc/ed 7850
knighty is still well into watercooling and I think maybe a couple of others still do that post less, tbh there's not much need to overclock these days though the way things are, I've mildly tweaked my CPU up to 4Gz turbo aircooled but thats it.
watercooling is boring now... it's all too easy... you can buy everything you need online in 5 min from about a million different shops
it was much more fun in the old days when you had to scour the net looking for every little bit... or make it yourself
my first watecooled pc was a k6-2-450... I made the waterblock out of a bit of steel square section pipe with the ends welded up, it was on my desk with a pump under the desk, in my bin full of water.... which I used to dump huge chunks of ice into out of the chest freezer.... that was back before I had an internet connection... so I'd never heard of watercooling before... and until I got online I thought I'd invented it (was only young) lol
far too easy these days !
Oh the memories!
I once tried to fabricate my own waterblock, it was horrendous and I gave up after 4 or 5 hours of toil.
The pencilled in links on those AMD CPUs ring a bell too, jesus didn't realise I'd been around as long as I have. Must be 12-14 years easily.
Just digging all the old pics, logo's and info from the days at OCS, BF & TEK :-)
Oh, they were the days, and 12-14 years sounds about right. I guess we all have houses, families, cars and are all grown up now?
Anyone know what Sam is doing these days?
Sam does contract java development in London now, although I might be back working with him on a couple of projects if they take off :)
It was comin back here that reminded me of water cooling. hehe
also remember the forums were bigger and had a waffle section.
I joined when at college through christopher monkey.
I joined when doing my AVCE in ICT at college, must have been 2001 or '02. Shame those first posts have been lost in the ether I guess, would have been interesting to see what questions I registered to ask. Must have been building my first computer I think!

Hi COol !!
Hi C0ol , still overclocking but not so extreme.I'm still using the Abyss rad from all those years ago & only just updated my Ehiem water pump.I have actually updated my Globwin 802 to Haf X , this must have been & least 12yrs or more old , had to go as no way i could fit a 7950 in it.Actually fired up my Prommie for the first time in years & it ran fine but it needs a refurb really but far to expensive to bother.
Hi Cool and welcome back.
I got myself a 3770K and haven't bothered with overclocking or extreme cooling recently. There is very little point if it does what you want in an acceptable time. SSD saves some time loading and 8 GB memory handles the stuff I do very well. Still thinking of going up to 16GB, and updating my second rig...
Seems that a 2.8Ghz dual core cpu isn't fast enough to run Guild Wars 2 World V World battles without massively dropping frames - despite the fact it runs every other game adequately.
Well I've just upgraded to:
8350 Black
Asus ROG Crosshairs V-z
16gb RAM
3gb 7970 GFX
Was thinking of going for a Corsair 800D case, 1200psu and a nice watercooling setup!
It's great to see some old faces / names around.

Bo it was silver paint on the Durons :)
I had one of those delta fans on my AMD and the entire house could hear it. Had to take it off because it kept people awake.

I have one in a draw somewhere, the big ones you could float a CD off the top of
Hello Ice, nice to see you back :)

I have always left my PC on overnight, you got used to the noise but around the house it did sound like someone had left the vacuum on permanently. Seeing what you could float above it was fun too

I used to have an abit bp6 -dual celeron & had 2 of the f**kers running
Pfft Intel fanboys ...
I'm still around, but not overclocking at the moment, accidentally became a responsible adult somewhere along the line, not sure how that happened!
good to see you back cool! Hope you'll stick around, it's a little quieter than it once was but still the only forum I always come back to.
Wonder how storm is aka Dave and Brun aka martin lol.......not spoke to tongy for years but saw him on Skype the other day.

Well damnit, no-one misses me :'(
It's about time you popped up again Ben!
It's amazing how people only seem to come out of the woodwork when one of these threads appears :tinhat:
Haven't logged on in a few years, thought I'd pop by to see if there was still life around :)
So... I work in the finance side of an ISP, still into computers but not overclocking. Bought my first house 2 years ago, I live with my missus of 6 years and a cat. Any changes with anyone else?
I've been lurking in the background lately!
Glad to see many of you are still around

Sounds cosy, man :) I'm doing web design and moved down to Portsmouth, also living with my missus of 4 years now but no pets and can't afford to buy a house yet!

I could afford to buy a house, then i met my partner and had a baby........now we rent
What has made everyone come back then?
What sort of things do you guys think you would like these forums to be to chat about?
Instead of some of the sections maybe we have housing and home DIY sections and things like that considering where we all at?
I will soon be moving to Sidney from Auckland for a new job, I got a Fiancee, I got big things on the cards for this year and will be making heaps of $$$$$$$ but nothing on me now, lol.
I think generally we were all a similar age when we got together, all into gadjets/cars/women/talking rubbish!
Now we are all a similar age still, but work much harder, have less time & money as we do not live at home
Certainly a finance section would be good, keep each other notified in good savings/mortgage/utilites offers.
*i am turning into a sad old man*

Are you still in Sheffield?
diy section would be good - but prob not practical if unqualified people are trying to tell people how to mend an electrical item.
My fridge packed in a few months ago & I had to change the heat exchange. easy job to do though & my whole house is a homer simpson diy project
I don't think a DIY or Finance section would be needed as there's not frequent enough threads on either really, its the sort of thing that can sit quite happily in GD without spreading out threads too thinly all over again.

Could possibly go under guides&projects ?
Yes, that would fit the bill for sure actually.
DIY, guides and projects. :)

Dripping sarnies, anyone?
I'm still here, usually lingering.

Near enough, moved slightly South when I bought my house but still work there. I hear you're back in the UK these days too?

Yeah I moved back to the UK with my wife in 2010. We live in London now. I might move back to America in 2014.
You're married?! Pics!
I moved to New Zealand 5 years ago, I got engaged December just gone and moving to Australia (Sidney) in April to start a new job and chapter in my work carrier.
Big moneys, some big projects to work on, IOS apps on the way as well as a side project. Busy Busy.
Soon I will be enjoying the 45 degree melts there, lol.
Got engaged last year, spending a fortune on a wedding that I should be spending on cars. Wedding at the end of March this year.
Fiancee is Scottish so we go over there a lot to visit her folks, her dad is a public figure over there. Discovered a love for Kayaking at their place in Aberfeldy.
Still have the MR2, only with a precision turbo now. HP unknown, should be in the region of 700. Rebuilt twice in 2 years. Current build is sleeved and girdled. Also still working at BX's!
Currently restoring a 1990 16V to use as a daily driver on Jenvey ITBs and emerald management. Will fire pics up presently in the car section.
Now working as a senior IT security consultant, spend a lot of time in London and Edinburgh. Hope to move to Edinburgh in the next few years.
Congrats Mark.
Wedding planning - we only in starting stages and can already see the headaches.
I do not why I am doing wedding, engagement party and moving to Australia all at same time, lol.
