Can you believe its $20 to order a cheque book (150 cheques). What a load of sh*te.

Maldonado

Why are you paying in checks?

Sam

Because the system is still rooted in the 19th century and BACS doesnt exist. People look at me as if I am watching star trek when I mention transferring money online.

Mark

Over here you still have to pay monthly for using a bank often, there is next to no bank actually offering debit cards which can be used online etc.
Credit cards are an extra thing to get when you set up a bank account and they also charge similar prices for chequebooks

One aspect of the UK which is cool these days, NZ is starting to go to how the UK was just before cash machine charges but its like the UK 5-10 years ago in many respects yet up to date

I think Europe is far more advanced in terms of banking.
Here in the US its dominated by tiny banks called credit unions which are basically 3 grandmas lending money to chavs.
