The problem being they host illegal content that the government has managed to block using google's database and the ISPs, they really don't want that stuff available. OK, I agree that child porn isn't something we want available, illegal sales of drugs are another problem issue. That said where there is a demand there is going to be a source willing to supply and in the end more webs will be produced.
I think this is one the government has lost already, there is only so much that can be done. The police have already stated that huge numbers of sex offenders will not be prosecuted because of lack of resources and the government is planning cuts to the police budgets.
So what could they do? Block all the darkweb sites too? Arrest anyone with the required software?
