Title: Equal prize money for Wimbledon - Why?
Post by: Tongy on February 22, 2007, 13:56:53 PM
Why is the decision being applauded? Men have to do more for their money than women do. Whats next women and men playing each other? If they want equality in pay they should have equality in play, theyd soon back down when no women won anything and ended up getting bugger all :D

Is it just me that finds it strange that has happened? I dont think women should get equal prize money if they dont play by the same set of rules.

Discuss.

Cheers

I agree.  A mens game can last much much longer than a womens so they should be paid more.  I think the rules should be same for both, too easy for the result to go to the wrong person on just three sets.

Yeah, I do not get this in this regard

If you do the same job same hours man or women you should be paid the same.
But in Tennis the women DONT play as many sets or for as long as the men so why on earth should they be paid the same? That is not fair

Equal pay is fair enough, imo. Who actually watches tennis if there isnt a fit bird playing?

The TV coverage and advertising bits that generate the dough seem about equal over here. Fair enough to have equal pay. Its not about the hours played, but the advertisement revenue taken it. In that regard, it seems womens tennis gets more air play than mens over here.

That line of thinking equates to:

women = hot = better pay

No one pays Alan to look gorgeous.

This could go downhill rapidly:

I do think they are taking the mick though. Should female footballers be paid less than male footballers because no one wants to watch them? No, they should be paid less because they are crap.

Why not? its not my money. I dont watch it. Generally speaking I find tennis, golf and most other sports boring to watch.

I think they should be paid equally, with conditions:

1. Shower cams available after attractive lesbian matches.
2. Skirts to be worn at all times by women players.
3. Marismo to wear a bag over her head at all times.
4. Each player to wear microphone so grunting, yelps, soft ugh to be more clearly heard.

On a more serious note agree with maxiusotter - more advertising revenue is generated.  Personally tend to watch the womens game as the mens is more often boring with just service games with most players, few few exceptions.  Besides the women are generally more pleasant on the eye.  If the women get equal pay then they can no longer expect men to give them money, buy drinks or pay for meals, if fully extended into society, which it is supposed to be then I wouldnt be out of pocket.

You really expect that to work? :o

And as for your point number 4 I seem to remember one being told off for being too noisy.

I dont expect the four points, but in an ideal world, if they want equally then they have to prepared to occasionally go to the bar and get a round in.  Men may have evolved from women but we can only hope they can catch up with us

Even if they end up with 20X your pay they will still expect you to get the drinks in. Although there are one or two enlightened ladies who insist on either going Dutch or buying a fair share of rounds they are not the norm.
