Title: FFS Job w0es
Post by: Binary Shadow on August 24, 2006, 01:45:20 AM
Gah its really getting to me now.. currently on the take with jobseekers allowance (oh how funny that is, i went in today to sign in, they just got me to sign a form and that was about it, maybe 2 mins of chat gah waste of time that and 60p parking.. arghhh).

Im applying to anything within a 40 mile radius now, contract and perm, after 2nd line (which a lot of them need more experience) and trying very hard to avoid 1st line/helldesk (which plenty of them are interested in me) but i just dont want to do it, i got told i was over experienced for one job i applied for FFS theres no winning!!

Iv worked on a 2nd line role for a year starting as a trainee and feel i shouldnt have to do 1st line/helpdesk now but it looks like im going to have to at this rate, not amused as it seems iv got my foot on the ladder then been shoved off again as iv not got a huge amount of experience.

Annoyingly theres very little 2nd line openings here anyway, if i was living further north thered be hundreds :(

The ladder only goes one way - hold out for a decent job & have a look at contracting. Going for sh*tty jobs only means you get stuck in poo for months.

Me, my problem is Ive burnt too many bridges, Ive pissed a lot of agencies off & pissed off some of the biggest it firms in the country/world but one thing I learnt is to have patience - a kushty job will come up sooner or later.

If youve got SC clearance I know a job thats going in London. I dont want any more competition but thats the big tip - go for jobs where youll get SC cleared, your rate will double :)

oh look forward, really do look forward.  Its great fun being interviewed alongside paper paper shuffling Media studies students who think itll be an easy option.  The scary thing is half the time they get the job because most of their course is about selling yourself.  Leaves a bad taste in the mouth, and a lot of crap IT support.

if youre employed for a job that requires security clearance then youre employer simply needs to get you security clearance - tis just a few bits of paper to fill out tbh...

if youre going to do other projects with diff employers then you may well need to get vetted again
