Title: Focus25
Post by: Rivkid on July 22, 2013, 10:53:02 AM
This will probably have a limited audience but I thought I'd post it anyway. Focus25 is the new bootcamp training package from Team Beachbody who's products I've been using to lose weight and get fitter over the last 12 months. Focus25 is designed and delivered by Shaun T who also did the Insanity workout program. The key thing with this is that it's just 25 minutes per day, 5 days a week. This is a seriously small time commitment but the trade off being its absolutely nuts from start to finish. No breaks, no slow downs just totally focused for the duration. Some guys in the US who I follow online (coaches) are getting really good results with this so I thought I'd give it a go- the 25 minutes time requirement is really appealing as fitting 1 hour workouts in has always been the hardest part for me. Just waiting for it to arrive. I'm looking forward to it - but a little scared haha!!

Most of the things I've read on general fitness all point to short but strenuous workouts being far more effective overall than moderate exercise, e.g. walking for 4 hours. I reckon you'll be onto a winner if you can stick to it!

I think the initial program is 30 days (Alpha & Beta phase) but there's an optional component (Gamma) that I think is another 30. I might do some new before shots actually - might help me stay on track!!! Been getting back into bad food lately - gotta stop that!!

I took a look at this last night, looks good. There's no way I could even consider making it to the end of the day 1 25 mins cardio but I figure doing as much as you can 5 days a week is going to make a lot of progress regardless.

Only issue is going to be getting sign off from the Mrs to sweat up the living room every night.

Having done other beachbody programs its all about modifying to the level you're at. I was taught to just modify the moves so that you complete the full session and keep your  heart rate high, and not to worry about matching them move for move. Also on T25 there's an actual modification option (like P90x) that you didn't get in Insanity. Mine arrives today according to DPD! :)

Just done the first day, well, 23 of the 25 mins as I got called away to assist with the kid, but still.

Exhausting, nowhere near able to keep up but the "modifiers" (lower intensity option) just about kept me in it.

Although the 25 mins was very hard, it didnt seem long enough to have a real difference, I'd be surprised if that once a day 5 days a week had a real impact. I guess we'll see.

Did my first one today - was dying! I'm the opposite - no way that won't work if I stick to it and eat clean. I've got some friends in the US in weeks 2 and 3 (who've been doing p90x religiously for ages) and they're raving about the results. They're way WAY fitter than me too so I should see better results. Hardest thing for me is going to be kicking the bad food again - free burger van at work tomorrow too!!

Day 2: Speed 1.0

Seemed easier than day 1 although I have to admit some of the more complex moves baffled me. The stretches were certainly a welcome break.

Pretty sure my form isnt the best, need to work on using my core.

Fancy joining in with this lads, what's the cost of it, the video above wont load for me on iPad :( where did you buy it from?

Rivkid, do you rate beachbody products?

I bought over the phone from http://www.beachbody.co.uk/

I can't talk highly enough about Beachbody. P90x, Les Mills Combat, Insanity, and T25 are superb. I paid £99 for T25 Alpha & Beta cycles - Gamma is an extra £50 later if you want it.

I did Speed 1.0 last night - definitely easier than Cardio but I was still dying lol! I didn't struggle with the moves as they feature in the other workouts so I was used to them. I'm away with work tonight so I've left tonights disk with the wife and brought Cardio with me to do again!!

Day 3: Full Body Circuit

Its ridiculous and amazing at the same time, destroys the chest, abs and thighs. I had to stop a number of times through exhaustion, this kind of excursion cant help but sort out my physique.

Got the wife on it as well, fingers crossed  :heehaw:

Is this the sort of thing where you really have to have a degree of activity/fitness already? It sounds like if I started doing it I'd be stiff as a board the next day or end up pulling a muscle.

depends on the goal - for weight loss, if you had the free time to walk 4 hours a day you'd slim down fairly quickly...

might not push your cardio vascular system as much as some intense workout though

OP's approach is probably a good one since lots of people don't have much free time and its easier to motivate yourself to do 25 mins at home than it is to make the effort to take an hour extra at the end of your day to go to the gym, get changed, go workout, come back home etc...

I cancelled my gym membership for exactly that reason Dave (as well as the cost). I'd rather get some weights in at home and a rowing machine.

My wife's doing this after about 2 years of zero exercise (having a kid), she has zero strength / cardio. There is someone on screen doing modified low intensity versions of each exercise which are pretty straight forward.

I think the point is as long as you work hard for 25 mins, regardless of how many or how vigorously you do the exercises, if you have a very high heart rate for 25 mins a day you're going to improve massively on where you started.

^ Yeah what he said. I'm still overweight and working on it but I just stop for a few seconds when I have to and then carry on.

I've had to spend the last 2 days in Oxford at last minute and forgot to grab my disks so I'm doing day 3 tomorrow. Will report in if I can still move my hands....

day 4 was better than day 3, all abs, I wasnt sure I was going to be able to do it but for whatever reason I managed a really good workout. I'm aching all over now which must be good.

EDIT: Wish I hadnt drunk last night. Got 2 workouts to do today, pretty certain I'm not going to be able to do them properly/
