Title: Google Voice
Post by: Sam on October 21, 2009, 03:11:41 AM
Anyone else got a google voice number yet ?

You choose your own phone number (so I choose a good repeating number (areacode) 229229) and then you download google voice app for your android phone. Now, when someone calls your google number its seemlessly routed to your Android phone. And when you make outgoing calls you can choose to dial from your proper number or your google number. Now if someone leaves a voicemail google transcribe it into text and send you an email, along with the wave file. Pretty clever stuff. So you can ring me, leave a message, I can see your message in my inbox, and my phone might be a 1000 miles away.

Not tied to just Android (on iphone if it gets approved as well) but a word of warning.
Voice stuff is appearing on google search results, lol!

Only the people that selected the option to make it available to public search.

I have a GV number, but its pretty much useless in the UK. Cant connect it to non-US phones. Cant SMS internationally OR receive international texts. I can use it as a pure voicemail box though. Also, since I made www.twitlonger.com I am amazed at managing to get 626-TWT-LONG :)

I didnt say it was only on android. But android is the only phone at the moment with the proper integration. The others you cant dial out using it. I always dial out using my google voice now, so I dont have to give out my proper NJ number.
