Today is the summer solstice :D
Where I live the sun sets 22:09 (10:09 PM) and rises at 03:50 (03:50 AM).
Midsummerfestivals not that big in the UK I take it :)
It is the largest yearly event in sweden, a pagan event that christianity could not stop :D Midvinter blot they turned into christmas though :(
My better half and I are celebrating Litha (as it was known to the Anglo-Saxons) however the Christianisation of the UK was far more complete than in Scandinavia so often its hard to find fellow heathens to celebrate it with. There are a few semi-big events but they arent very true to their roots and the majority of those who attend arent really practising any semblance of a real faith but neo-pagan/witchy types who I have very little in common with.
I had no idea Midsummer meant anything. I just looked on the calendar and thought "oh, the Sun will set really late."
A friend even rang me up going "Its the solstice!" and I was all "The what?" I just thought it was some celebration at Stonehenge.
lol would appear im not the only one that doesnt care then.. all it means to me is that i can polish my car till 9pm and still be able to see whats going on.. sort of

Not as a whole but a fair few people (mainly Druids and hippies) do turn up at Stone Henge to watch the sunrise on the 21st as part of the solstice.
Here it is as big as 4th of juli in the US.
I had a drink.
Midwinter ended up between Christmas and New year for us. Really easy to sort out if we moved all three to the same day, although the doom merchants would be out again plaguing us with tales of impending mass computer failures again and estimating the cost to put it right in millions.
