If you're ever near Chester you HAVE to check this place out. 40 minute drive for us but we go a lot because its awesome! American BBQ at its finest - ribs, brisket, burgers, hot links, shrimp, and some of the best homemade sauces ever. Also a 7.5 pint beer tower at your table!!
Here's my full rib platter from last night (which I got through about half - the rest is in my fridge!)

The epic beer tower! (James may have had a few already...):

Great night out - highly recommended. Any recommendations for other cool places?
ahh the beer tower. £5 in moscow & £2 for a refill.
if your in london - http://thehawksmoor.com - if not, buy their book & cook your own.
That place looks awesome Rivkid, how long has it been open? If I was up in Yorkshire still it would be worth the drive to try it out sometime, but its too far now though. I'm always on the lookout for decent restaurants that aren't chain places or run of the mill, the problem is all the most notorious tend to be in London like The Hawksmoor egg pointed out.
There's a really nice italian restaurant up that sort of way near Ormskirk called Quattro's (at least it was excellent the last time I went which is going back about 4/5 years now) http://www.quattros.co.uk/ (http://www.quattros.co.uk/)
It's not really cool like brisket, ribs and a beer tower as such but the missus has managed to book me a table for my birthday at http://www.thehandandflowers.co.uk/ (http://www.thehandandflowers.co.uk/) - I've been a fan of Tom Kerridge's food since I first saw him on Great British Menu so to say I'm looking forward to it is an understatement. I'm going to splash out on a decent bottle of wine too, no point doing things by half measure when its not something you get to do every day.
Makes me think of:

Yeah I saw on FB she'd booked you into the Hand and Flowers - well jealous! Tom is awesome and Great British Menu is where I first saw him too. I love the food he makes - looking forward to hearing how good it is!!
Panama Hatty's does a good selection of quality food. Was at the Prestwich Panama Hatty's Grill last weekend and had some great steak and ribs. Also had a great bowl of chilli for starters. http://www.panamahatties.co.uk/
Gonna have to head down to Chester at some point to try Hickories sometime.

Oh love Panama Hatties - we've been to the one in Tarporley a few times. Always spend too much money on cocktails though!
I've been meaning to go there for ages, I only live 15mins away, defo going to try it this week after seeing that.

Actually yeah they did offer last time I went!
Thats just admitting defeat!
Went to Cheshire Oaks yesterday and decided that we'd head down to Hickory's afterward. Me and the missus decided to order the Smokehouse Platter so we could sample a few dishes.
The sauce on the pulled pork had a little too much vinegar, but apart from that the food was very nice. Nice beef brisket, the dry rubbed baby backs were really tasty but the standout was the Kansas style BBQ glazed spare ribs, which were so juicy and had a really tasty barbecue sauce on them. The skin-on fries and slaw were also really tasty.
