Right we all know the stuff surrounding all other faiths where they are allowed to where all their things and practise their religion etc and in some cases not allowed (basically taking it to far in some aspects) like which I do agree on wearing a veil is fine but you can not effectivly teach with one on
And we have seen indian faiths take an extreme here while in the native country they are far more relaxed (that thread with the pics of two streets I did if you recall)

Recently though there has been a number of examples where the Christian is being obliterated and in many cases schools with a larger Christian actually teaching less about the religion then others Basically being to pc in terms of race and other faiths and forgetting one of the nations main and original faiths.
And again recently people who are Christian and like other faiths wish to show that in form of symbolisations like a cross around the neck or like this current case a purity ring http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6229098.stm and others all of which are well documented ways of presenting your faith are basically being outed, banned and ignored by education and buisness environments

For me it is stupid, such places are far to worried about being pc with other faiths, religions and not being racist they are killing their national faiths and concepts and actually for me are discriminating against these, a bloody ring or neckless is NOT as much as other religion symbols like the head wear and clothing etc and they DO symbolise your faith and if you are a heavy believer in that then you wear such things to be told you can not is stupid and wrong and they do take the piss.
I hope the girl wins. Every where is far to PC and it is getting out of hand.

When I was a kid we had street parties for the Queens birthday and you have people who live in this country wanting the tv affair she has on such days scraped becuase it is nothing to do with them.
At Primary school first years we song hymns but again stopped completely for other faiths yet prayer time they can prey.
I am not a Racist far from it I just think everything is getting far to over the top and what I believe in and others who are and our nation is being lost.
I am glad in some areas it is changing, forcing people who come from another country looking to live here will soon HAVE to be able to speak English is the right thing to do.
Wanting to live here and getting to live here and no nothing about our country and the ones who can not even speak the English language are just selfish and rued and it is THEY who need to first respect how things are done in this country and THEN we can respect their faiths and attitudes as well and it is THAT which will make for a better country.

It is true, the most up to date figures I can find put 13%-13.5% Muslim, the largest of the minority religions.

Edit:
Here you go, from the office of the Registrar General in India.

2001, lol, point I was making is this:
Religions: Hindu 80.5%, Muslim 13.1%, Christian 2.31%, Buddhists 1.05%, Sikh 0.74%, Jains 0.41 %, Others or not stated 0.76% (2001 Census

where in the Uk we do have (since one is a bloody neighbour) Indian Sikh.
And also the census does state only the large population cities and can not log the remote areas of which is large.
Point is there is not just one religion as he was indicating in terms of India and Indian people which includes Islam Which with the last 2006 census is on the increase because it is in many Muslim and nearby countries

I dont think christianity is underrepresented at all.  Christmas and Easter.

Education is supposed to teach about religions not practice them.  Christianity being a small percentage of the population of the world should in fairness represent a small amount of the syllabus.

If you take the percentage of believers worldwide for each faith then christianity is fairly over taught in the UK imo.

Nothing stops anyone praying for their religion.  What is banned is organised services for non religious schools.  this makes common sense as noone makes anyone go on the Hajj or answer calls to prayer every morning.  Why should schools tell all people to sing hymns to the christian god?

The whole point of all these things isnt to stop anyone believing anything.  Its to stop people who dont believe things having to sing along or say things that a) mean nothing to them so are pointless and b) degrade the real religious people as for them, the words mean something.  Having people just saying the words offends some christians.

Yes but why be threatened to be expelled for symbols representing your faith?

Most schools ban publically displayed religious items.  Most schools have little problem with a christian cross worn under the clothes (with the exception of having to remove them while playing sports ofc).

The ones that ban a christian cross almost certainly ban every other religious item and more likely theyre banned because they dont fit the uniform code of the school not anything else.

School heads arent going to randomly say you cannot wear christian crosses just for the hell of it.  People just dont work like that.

Im sorry that 2001 is too out of date for you, but unless you want to wait for the next census to roll around its the best source of information available on the subject. Incidentally sdp certainly didnt indicate there was only one faith in India. In fact I believe he said "80% Hindu, 10%-12% Muslim..." which was almost spot on the census figures. Lets just be honest here, you muddled up your countries. And if you didnt you phrased it badly; you sandwich the comment about India in the middle of a comment about wearing a veil and another about extremism in the UK, so you can understand why sdp felt you were incorrect in referring to India.

Christians Cause Ban On Alcohol Inhalers Because They Prevent Hangover.
QuoteChristians are always trying to ban things and criminalize people they dont agree with. They ban books and televised shows that disagree with their philosophies. They hate Science and Scientific literature that doesnt say the Earth was created 7 thousand years ago. They demonize sex and are more concerned what goes on in other peoples bedrooms than their own. Their leaders molest little children and use the Churchs money to defend themselves. They love the Iraq war and try to justify it by adding a touch of Christian missionary work to it. They love their booze and guns just as much as their Bibles. They have the highest divorce and murder rates. They are the worlds biggest hypocrites.
If anything, Christians etc are increasingly infringing on the rights of Atheists.

This has nothing to do with religion.

I think you will find that the Queen is the religious head of the Church of England, as has every other English ruler since Henry 8th.

Its like saying the Pope has nothing to do with religion.

AAs for the original issue they are being very OTT. IMO there is nothing wrong with someone wearing jewellery in school - providing it is discrete. Bangles are far more noticeable so should be banned too. The excuse that it isnt a necessary part of her religion is twaddle.

OTOH what if a group of devil worshippers want to take their sacrificial goat into school in order to cut its throat and drag out its entrails at the right time?

SteveF

Thanks for explaining the church of England to me Serious - obviously this is all new information to me ;)

The fact there are no parties in the street on the queens birthday is what has nothing to do with religion not the queen.  Im sure you could have worked that out tbh.

A lot of the OP was nonsense but he has sort of got a point re: the purity ring

as laughable as the whole concept is if this girl wants to wear her religious symbol to school and the school allows others to wear head scalfs etc.. then it is completely wrong of them to ban her from doing so.
