from a purely objective point of view religious affiliations and political affiliations are basically shared sets of views/beliefs only religious affiliations also contain the belief in a supernatural being(s).
If criticism/disliking of a religion is frowned upon then so should criticism/disliking of a set of political beliefs. Though tbh.. Dave, it depends on your description of racism. Many countries regard Jews as a race in order to put protective legislation into effect. From that point of view its definitely racist.

Because it is both funny and racist? Being one does not exclude the other in this, as I pointed out in the first post and why I didnt put it into Humour and Jokes.

IIRC *technically* in the UK jews are a race and can be protected under racial discrimination laws(there are of course obvious historical reasons for this)- though in reality jewish people come from a variety of different backgrounds
the point Im interested in getting across though is that the father was getting mad due to knowledge that his daughters BF doesnt share their common religious views - he wasnt getting upset about his genetic make up or actual race therefore not racist. If the father was a catholic and getting upset that his daughter was dating a jew then that could technically be racist with the whle jew=race thing though in reality the reasoning behind it would be the same.
